• A Woman of Resilience
    Sep 13 2024

On this episode, I follow up with a very special Daughter of Change, Esi Chantal Umuraza. You may remember Chantal from our podcast in July of 2021 entitled “Daughter of Rwanda”. On that podcast, we discussed her journey from a young survivor of the Rwandan Genocide to a budding social entrepreneur.

Since we last spoke, Chantal’s dream of creating a retreat in her homeland to highlight the rich, cultural history of her country - while helping the people in her community - has become a reality.

Chantal is the proud founder of Ishobe Rwanda, a wellness retreat center that specializes in connecting people through traditions, cultural activities, arts, thematic events, and wellness.

We’ll be discussing how her concept became a reality, what she has learned, and how she is lifting up her local community.

  • Changing the Narrative About Addiction
    May 24 2024

Today I’m bringing back a very special Daughter of Change - Carolyn Delaney - my very first guest on this podcast in the July 2019 episode “Amplifying Hope”. We’ll learn how her platform, Journey Magazine, has grown by making recovery visible and changing the narrative about addiction.

Carolyn is the founder and publisher of Journey Enterprises - a media company on a mission to make recovery from addiction visible in places where people live, eat, work, and shop.

After spending 20 years leading IT departments, she saw an opportunity to elevate and promote inspiring personal recovery stories, recovery programs, and resources to save lives by amplifying a message of hope and reducing addiction stigma.

She envisions a world where all options for recovery are known and accessible.

A world where people are celebrated for reclaiming their lives from addiction and positively impacting

  • Into the Light
    Apr 26 2024

My guest on this episode, Aliza Hava, is an award-winning singer/songwriter whose music explores the deepest levels of love, life, and the power of positive social change.

After college, she began performing at and co-producing concerts at the United Nations headquarters in NYC. She earned a position as Chair of the UN International Day of Peace NGO Music Committee and went on to produce live concerts on six continents in partnership with over forty civic society, governmental, and environmental organizations.

While living part-time in the Middle East, Aliza represented UN-related peacebuilding initiatives and worked with Israeli and Palestinian musicians to promote peace and dialogue through music. She went on to produce the internationally live-streamed concert, Harmony in the Holy Land. This extraordinary event united Muslim, Christian, and Jewish musicians in a universal, musical prayer for peace from the heart of Jerusalem. Watching Palestinians and Israelis meet as strangers and part ways as friends, Aliza felt the reaffirmation of her calling to build bridges through the healing power of music.

Featured on the soundtrack of Sharon Stone’s award-winning documentary, Femme: Women Healing the World, which also features performances by Annie Lennox, Yoko Ono, and Rickie Lee Jones, Aliza is a recipient of the Human Spirit Award presented by the international organization Talent for Humanity.

Aliza’s New Album “Into The Light” is coming out soon. Produced by multi-platinum Grammy-winner Mikal Blue, the album features ten songs that take the listener on a soulful journey from darkness, “Into the Light.”

  • Rosie on the Rise!
    Mar 22 2024

I’m excited to be re-releasing this episode with our youngest Daughter of Change to date - Rosie – from the popular Go Rosie Grow show. Rosie is an amazing eight-year-old from Detroit Michigan who uses her talents to shine a light on historical black figures and icons.

Since we spoke in March of 2023, big things have been happening for Rosie and her family's team of talented women known as “The Big 3” - a nod to their hometown auto industry. This trio of Daughters of Change includes Rosie, her sister A’Blesyn, and her mom Kenya Faye.

Late last Fall, Rosie was discovered by Oprah, and her Instagram account has soared to over 100,000 followers.

When Niecy Nash, well-known actor, and television host, caught wind of Rosie reenacting the famous table scene from The Color Purple – playing all the character's roles may I add – she sent it along to Oprah.

Oprah was wowed! She reached out to Rosie and invited the Big 3 to come to the Los Angeles Premier of the remake of The Color Purple and walk the purple carpet with her.

While Rosie is the star of the show, her big sister A’Blesyn is the mastermind behind the camera who directs, films, and edits all Rosie’s videos. Her mom Kenya Faye creates the wardrobe magic and chooses the scenes.
