• 70. Feeling Anxious at the Start of a New Year? Recognize Your Triggers and Overcome Them with God's Peace
    Jan 10 2025

The start of a new year often brings excitement, but it can also spark uncertainty and anxiety. In this episode of Curious for Christ, I dive into the root causes of anxiety and share how you can recognize your triggers and overcome them through God’s peace. Using practical steps and biblical insights, you’ll learn to surrender your worries and rely on God for strength and calm.

    What You’ll Learn:
    1. What is Anxiety?
    • Anxiety is a response to stress but often stems from trying to control the uncontrollable.
    • Common triggers include overwhelming responsibilities, people-pleasing, fear of failure, loneliness, and overthinking.
Key Verse: 1 Peter 5:7 – “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.”
    2. Recognizing Your Anxiety Triggers:
    • Reflect through journaling, asking yourself key questions like:
    • Am I avoiding deeper issues?
    • Am I overly consumed by others’ opinions or problems?
    • Pay attention to recurring stress patterns.
Key Verse: Matthew 6:33 – “Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
    3. 5 Steps to Overcome Anxiety:
    • Step 1: Shift Your Focus to God
Start your day with prayer or scripture.
Isaiah 26:3 – “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in You.”
    • Step 2: Surrender Control
Pray, “Lord, I release this situation into Your hands.”
Philippians 4:6-7 – “Do not be anxious about anything…but present your requests to God. And the peace of God…will guard your hearts and minds.”
    • Step 3: Take Captive Every Thought
Replace anxious thoughts with God’s truth.
Joshua 1:9 – “Be strong and courageous…for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
    • Step 4: Be Present in the Moment
    Trust God with tomorrow’s worries.
Matthew 6:34 – “Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.”
    • Step 5: Build Healthy Habits
Create a routine that includes time with God and set boundaries to reduce overwhelm.
    4. God’s Promise of Peace:
God’s peace doesn’t remove problems but gives strength to endure them.
Matthew 11:28 – “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

    Action Step:
    - Identify one anxiety trigger this week, bring it to God in prayer, and ask Him to replace your worry with His peace.

  • 69. Q&A: How to Grow Closer to God When You don't Feel Like It?
    Jan 8 2025

In this episode, I dive into the common struggle of feeling spiritually dry and distant from God. I address the challenges we face when we don’t feel like connecting with God and offer practical steps to help us grow closer to Him, even when our hearts feel distant. If you’re in a season where it feels hard to pray, read Scripture, or even believe God is near, this episode is for you.

I explore why we might feel spiritually dry, offering insight into emotional fatigue, distractions, unresolved sin, and unmet expectations. Then, I share six practical steps to help you draw closer to God, along with powerful Bible verses to encourage you along the way.

6 Practical Tips to Grow Closer to God:

    1. Be Honest with God

    • Prayer isn’t about perfect words; it’s about being raw and honest. Just like David in the Psalms, pour out your heart, even your doubts and frustrations, before God.

    • Bible Verse: Psalm 62:8 – “Trust in Him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us.”

    2. Return to the Basics

    • Even if it feels hard, read Scripture. God’s Word has the power to revive a weary spirit. Start with sections like the Psalms or the Gospels.

    • Bible Verse: Isaiah 40:31 – “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

    3. Create Space for God

    • Unplug from distractions and intentionally seek quiet moments to connect with God. Spend 10-15 minutes in silence, meditating on Scripture or simply inviting God into your day.

    • Related Episodes: Episode 49, Episode 59, Episode 67.

    4. Worship and Gratitude

    • Worship before you feel it. Worship songs or thanking God for small blessings can shift your heart and perspective.

    • Practical Tip: Make a gratitude list of three things every day, even in difficult seasons.

    5. Stay Connected to Community

    • Surround yourself with others who are seeking God. Being in community can reignite your faith.

    • Related Episodes: Episode 29-36, where I share how I became a Christian.

    6. Rest in God’s Grace

    • Your relationship with God isn’t based on your feelings but on His unchanging love. Rest in His grace, knowing that He is faithful, even when we feel weak or vulnerable.

    • Bible Verse: 2 Corinthians 12:9 – “But He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’”

    Bible Verses to Encourage You:

    • Matthew 11:28-30

    • Isaiah 40:31

    • Romans 8:28

    • Ecclesiastes 3:1

    Call to Action:

This week, take one small step toward God each day. It could be a simple prayer, reading a scripture, or sitting quietly in His presence. The journey back to intimacy with God starts with one faithful step at a time.

  • 66. Do you Want more Confidence and Clarity in Christ? A Deep Dive into God's Heart for Women
    Dec 20 2024

Welcome back! Today, we dive into an essential topic—how understanding the Bible, especially regarding women, can transform our confidence in Christ.

I’m revisiting two powerful interviews with Gordon Ferguson, author of The Bible and Women, and Jeanie Shaw, author of The View from Paul’s Window. Gordon and Jeanie offer insights on interpreting Scripture accurately to understand God’s heart for us.

    Key Takeaways:
The Imago Dei: Gordon Ferguson talks about how we are made in God’s image and the responsibility we have to represent Him accurately. In all that I do, am I representing God well? Gordon also highlights that men and women together reflect God’s image more fully than we do individually. How we relate to each other matters, as shown by the New Testament’s repeated call to “love one another.”
Biblical Interpretation: Jeanie Shaw sheds light on interpreting Paul’s teachings about women. Misunderstandings arise from cultural biases or a lack of context, but when we apply principles like exegesis and hermeneutics, we gain clarity about God’s heart for us. To learn more about these tools for Bible interpretation, check out Episode 42.
The Bible as a Whole: The Bible points to God’s love and redemption. Paul’s writings reflect this, and if our interpretations don’t align with that, we’re missing the point. We must always read Scripture through the lens of Christ—His teachings and His example—to gain a clearer picture of God’s will for our lives.
Living Boldly in Christ: As we approach Christmas, we’re reminded that Jesus, the perfect representation of God, shows us how to live with humility and boldness. Boldness doesn’t mean superiority—it means stepping into our identity as servants of God.

    Practical Steps:
    1. Seek to understand God’s will through Scripture.
    2. Serve others with humility, even in small ways, like helping a neighbor or offering a kind word.
    3. Let go of misunderstandings, fear, and self-doubt, knowing you are fully loved and equipped by God.

  • 65. Finding God's Plan for 2024 and Hope for 2025
    Dec 13 2024

In this episode, we reflect on the profound truth that just as the Bible is a collection of many books and stories, it tells one overarching story of God’s plan to restore and redeem His people. Similarly, our lives are part of a bigger story—a grand narrative that God is weaving, even if we often can’t see it while living day-to-day.

Life’s setbacks, unexpected events, and redirections can throw us off course and make us lose sight of the bigger picture. But what if these moments are not interruptions but part of God’s divine plan for something better? How do we discern when to press forward and when to surrender?

In this episode, I revisit my conversation with Bible scholar Courtney Bailey, who shares insights into the overarching narrative of the Bible and how we can connect it to our own lives.

What You’ll Learn in This Episode:
    • How God’s overarching story in the Bible connects to your personal journey.
    • Insights from Bible scholar Courtney Bailey about the grand narrative of Scripture.
    • How to navigate life’s unexpected twists and find peace in surrendering to God’s redirection.
    • Why Christmas reminds us of God’s promise of restoration and ultimate happy ending.
    • A practical year-end challenge to help you reflect on God’s work in your life in 2024.

    Key Takeaways:
The Big Picture: Just as the Bible is one cohesive story of God redeeming and restoring His people, our lives are part of His greater narrative.
Garden Moments: We all face choices that reflect Adam and Eve’s temptation or Jesus’ surrender in Gethsemane. Trusting God leads to peace and purpose.
The Hope of Restoration: Revelation 22 reminds us that the story ends with perfect harmony—a restored relationship with God where we reign with Him forever.

    Reflection Challenge for 2024:
    1. Write down one significant event, challenge, or blessing from each month this year.
    2. Look for recurring patterns or themes.
    3. Reflect on God’s faithfulness—how have you seen Him at work?
