Our local school system is a primary provider of future community and business leaders. A 2022 study conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau and researchers at Harvard University found that at age 26, nearly 70% of the population lives within the commuting zone in which they grew up. This means the students currently enrolled in our local schools will make up the majority of our future workforce. That’s one reason why the Daytona Regional Chamber has strategically built a strong partnership with Volusia County Schools. In this episode of Crest of the Wave, we welcome Superintendent Dr. Carmen Balgobin to discuss recent achievements of the students, academic pathways designed to support student career exploration, and what’s on the horizon for Volusia County Schools.
