As we close out 2024, we’ll take a look back at the year that was in the City of Daytona Beach by chatting with Mayor Derrick Henry. We’ll talk about some of the highlights in economic development, tourism and hospitality, housing, and infrastructure. We also discuss what’s on the horizon for the City, including addressing the flooding challenges throughout the region, and major projects coming in the not too distant future. Our local school system is a primary provider of future community and business leaders. A 2022 study conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau and researchers at Harvard University found that at age 26, nearly 70% of the population lives within the commuting zone in which they grew up. This means the students currently enrolled in our local schools will make up the majority of our future workforce. That’s one reason why the Daytona Regional Chamber has strategically built a strong partnership with Volusia County Schools. In 2023, the Florida Legislature passed the REACH Act 2.0, a wide-reaching bill significantly impacting workforce & education throughout the state. In August, the racing world will once again turn its eyes to Daytona Beach as the World Center of Racing hosts the Coke Zero Sugar 400. That’s one of many activities held at Daytona International Speedway each year. Many are racing oriented, while others bring music festivals, boat shows, and corporate events to life at the iconic, world-renown location.
