• When My Sistah Wins We All Win - Breast Cancer Awareness PSA
    Oct 2 2024

In this episode, I'm getting personal with y'all. I'm sharing how cancer has touched my life and the lives of those so dear to each of us. From my grandmother's battle with cancer to friends currently fighting breast cancer, and even those who've come out victorious on the other side - I've seen it all. But don't you worry, this isn't just a heavy episode. It's about hope, strength, , information, and the power of our community coming together.

I'm breaking down the facts for you. Did you know breast cancer can affect people as young as their 20s? That's right, and it's why I'm stressing the importance of early detection. We're talking self-exams, mammograms, and why you shouldn't let fear keep you from getting checked out. I'm even giving you a rundown of what to expect from doctor visits to potential treatments. Knowledge is power. Here's a few status from Susan G. Komen Foundation :

Black women in the U.S. face significant challenges regarding breast cancer, despite having a lower overall incidence rate compared to non-Hispanic white women. As of January 2021, about 361,000 Black women were breast cancer survivors or living with breast cancer. Notably, Black women tend to be diagnosed at a younger median age (61) compared to non-Hispanic white women (65). The mortality rate for Black women is approximately 37% higher than for white women, although it has been declining by about 1% per year from 2018 to 2022. Survival rates for non-Hispanic Black women (84% 5-year relative survival) lag behind those of non-Hispanic white women (93%). Factors contributing to these disparities include differences in tumor biology, later stage at diagnosis, barriers to high-quality healthcare, and higher rates of certain risk factors. Encouragingly, Black women had higher rates of screening mammography in 2021 compared to other women, which may help in earlier detection and improved outcomes.

Now, let me speak directly to our community for a minute. We face higher risks and often get diagnosed later. That's why I'm putting extra emphasis on the importance of regular check-ups and self-screenings for us. We've got to look out for each other, you feel me? This episode is all about encouraging you to take charge of your health, and reminding you that you're not alone in this fight.

    So tune in now,

Whether you're a survivor, currently battling, supporting a loved one, or just want to stay informed, this episode is for you. Let's break the silence, spread awareness, and support each other. Oct 1 2024

Today's episode is not your typical Motivational Monday, but I believe there's strength in vulnerability and power in sharing our struggles. I open up about receiving some heavy news today. Hearing about the passing of NBA legend Dikembe Mutombo hit me hard. I didn't know him personally, but I saw him at countless events around Atlanta. His passing is a stark reminder of life's fragility.

Later, I joined a prayer call with my home church in New York. It was uplifting, but as we wrapped up, I got a text that a close friend had a stroke. He's like a brother to me, and the news left me unsettled. Shortly after, I received an obituary for a young man knew. The weight of these events was overwhelming, and it made me reflect on the importance of being truthful and transparent about our feelings.

We all go through tough times, and it's crucial to express ourselves rather than bottle things up. I hope by sharing my experiences, it encourages you to be open about whatever you are going through. Find someone you can confide in, whether it's a friend, mentor, or . • Wind Down Wednesday - What Would You Title Your Autobiography?
    Sep 26 2024

In this episode of Cousin Ed's Corner, I'm getting real with you about life, family, and the power of sharing our stories. It all started with a conversation I had with my dad about being prepared for life's uncertainties. You know how it is - those heavy talks that make you stop and think about what really matters.

But here's where it gets interesting, fam. My son EJ, who's off at college now, surprised me with this dope gift - a "Family Keepsake Journal. Dad, I Want To Hear Your Story" Now, I'll be honest, it caught me off guard. It's probably the first time he's sent me something without asking for anything in return! But jokes aside, it got me thinking about the importance of documenting our lives and passing down our stories to the next generation.

Throughout the show, I'm sharing some of the questions from this journal and giving you a peek into my own story. I'm talking about my Brooklyn roots, my favorite childhood memories (like cooking breakfast for my grandmother), and some of the best advice my parents ever gave me. And let me tell you, some of these memories shaped the man you know today as Cousin ED!

I'm challenging you, my listeners, to think about your own life stories. "What Would You Title Your Autobiography? What memories and lessons do you want to pass down to your family? I believe we all have a unique story to tell, and it's up to us to make sure it's heard.

    Sep 21 2024

In this episode of Cousin Ed's Corner, I'm diving deep into the heart of faith, gratitude, and God's Perfect Timing. I open up about the importance of Thanking God not just on Fridays (TGIF), but every single day of our lives. Through personal anecdotes and heartfelt reflections, I remind you that even in our most challenging moments, there's always something to be grateful for.

I speak about the transformative power of gospel music. If we just pay closer attention to the words, we may find comfort and inspiration in the shared experiences of faith expressed through music.
