Corey Jernigan: Resilience, Recovery, and Reinvention

  • Summary

  • In this episode of The Morgan Kimbarow Show, we sit down with Corey Jernigan, an inspiring singer-songwriter and host of the Corey Alexander Podcast, who currently serves as President of the University of San Diego College Republicans. Corey’s journey started when he enlisted in the US Navy right out of high school, where he served as a corpsman. He deployed to Iraq, Kuwait, and Jordan to care for combat-wounded personnel and also trained to become a Special Amphibious Reconnaissance Corpsman (SARC) with Marine Recon.

However, in March 2019, while stationed in Arizona, Corey's life changed dramatically when he suffered a traumatic brain injury from a fall, leading to a skull fracture, brain bleed, and ongoing cognitive impairments, including seizures. Despite these challenges, Corey’s story is one of determination and resilience. He now competes as a Jiu-jitsu athlete, working tirelessly to sharpen his skills for future competitions. His passion for fitness and knowledge continues to drive him, as he strives to help others discover their healthiest selves.

Tune in to hear Corey’s incredible journey of overcoming adversity, his commitment to physical and mental recovery, and how he channels his passion for music, fitness, and leadership into his daily life.
