  • Summary

  • No one has benefited more from AI and Machine learning than the con artist. This 10-part police drama begins in Los Angeles with an investigation into a group of con men using machine learning to improve their scams and ends in Tibet with a long con involving reincarnation and an evolved artificial intelligence. With each chapter, the stakes rise higher as cybercrimes detective Sydney Birch peels back layer after layer of this complex scheme. A lot of the story and its details draw directly from current events and popular online conspiracy theories.

Good story

Interesting podcast, well performed. The only thing that put me off was the talking while drinking/eating. It was really off-putting and made me want to stop listening in parts....

Could see the ending a mile off

But it was still a great story and Rhea Seehorn's performance was excellent. Great story with a few twists.

Great Story

Loved this audible!
It was a great story about Cybercrime and the advances of AI that captured the imagination.. I would love to see a follow up to this.

Like a Netflix boxset for your ears

High quality stuff. A plausible near-future detective thriller that taps into our (possibly well-founded) paranoia about social media, AI and cyber crime. It's not dissimilar to Dave Eggers' The Circle (great book, terrible film) and an extended Black Mirror episode. Convincing performances and snappy script. Quite a few references to hacker culture, which may be lost on some, but would highly recommend for an adult listener.

Enjoyable story, amazing performance

When approaching this audio, you'll have to think of it more like a narrative episodic podcast than a book. It's a slowburn at times with twists and turns, and if you can remain focused and figure out the storyline, it's quite rewarding. The performance is absolutely amazing and the story is enjoyable. The ending could be disappointing if you're not fully engaged, but if you paid attention along the way and can figure out the implications of the ending, then it fits the story nicely.
The strong suit of the story is the characterization. Walker does a splendid job of writing engaging and realistic characters and Rhea Seehorn and the cast really brings them to life.
Overall a recommended listen! I'm hoping to hear more audios written by Walker and narrated by Rhea Seehorn and the rest of the cast.
