  • Demystifying Medicare for Beginners
    Oct 17 2024

Medicare is health insurance for U.S. citizens that are ages 65 and older. Eligibility may be available before the age of 65 for those with a disability, End-Stage Renal Disease, or ALS (also called Lou Gehrig’s disease).

In 2023, more than 65 million Americans depended on Medicare, a number that is rising in tandem with the aging population, according to the AARP.

On today's episode, we break Medicare down to the basics, and cover all of the topics that seem tailor-made to confuse:

    • The different parts of Medicare and what they cover
    • High earners vs. low earners
    • Working past the age of 65
    • What happens when you travel or move
    • Lifetime penalties and how to avoid them

  • Racial Disparities in Alzheimer's Care feat. Valene Campbell
    Sep 26 2024

Our guest today is a mother, a founder, a caregiver, a business woman, a dementia advocate, a children's book author, and (unsurprisingly) a master at handling burnout.

Valene Campbell founded the home health care agency ReVitahealth, and is a dementia advocate who serves on both the Harvard Medical School Advisory Council for the Dementia Solutions Project, and the Alzheimer’s Society Canada NDG Black Community Working Group. In 2022, she was named one of ‘Canada's Top 100 Black Women to Watch’.

Valene is also the founder of the Zou Zou Media Publishing House and has written three bestselling children’s books in The Amazing Zoe series since 2020.

Today, we take a harrowing peek into the inequities that still plague our healthcare system (and our bookshelves), discuss finding balance between raising our kids and caregiving for our parents, and ultimately learn to contend with burnout.

  • The Case for Caregiving Benefits feat. Patrick Twohig
    Aug 29 2024

Our guest today is the Chief Revenue Officer (CRO) here at Homethrive–Patrick Twohig. In addition to his vast experience in healthcare sales, Pat was a caregiver for his father for 15 years, and is a father of 2 children himself, one of whom has ADHD. This dual position gives him a unique perspective on exactly what caregivers need to be successful, and how their organizations can help.

Today, Pat teaches us what employees are starting to expect from their benefit package, and how caregiving and mental health are beginning to be destigmatized and prioritized by both workers and their organizations.

  • The Office Politics of Caregiving
    Aug 22 2024

There are over 50 million caregivers in the United States today, responsible for the care of an aging adult or a child with complex medical needs. But many of them, despite the added stress and pressure of the role, will not inform their team at work.

Today, we discuss how caregivers make some of the most effective employees, but only if given the right flexible and understanding leadership and work environment. We also learn that the level of support from a supervisor or the amount of autonomy in a job position can significantly impact not only a employee’s stress level and overall mental and physical health, but their caregiving as well.
