His science fiction, horror drawings, and stories are meant to be your surreal escape from the pressures of being Black in America. Never too tired to create, Dylan’s traditional illustrations that are inspired by 70’s comic books, blend seamlessly with Afrofuturistic elements to create a one of a kind reading experience.

Chatty Patty (@blackramen_podcast) joins us on the Black Superheroes Matter Podcast. As one of the hosts and architects of the Black Ramen Podcast, Patty redesigns the “nerdy” archetype by challenging assumptions and stereotypes. The Black Ramen Podcast is a safe space for Black listeners in the anime community that gives them the opportunity to be unapologetic about their manga, comic book, and anime interests. The podcast also welcomes Black comic book creatives to send any projects you have over to them for reviews and feedback. One of her focuses is to promote artists that have great content that other Black and poc’s may enjoy.

Joel Maxime Jr. (@hood_comix) Joel joins us on the Black Superheroes Matter Podcast. Coming from Chicago, Illinois Joel is a multitalented illustrator, art director, curator, sculptor, martial artist, producer and an overall versatile individual. Crediting Hyde Park for its rich culture and beauty, his projects range from environmental consciousness, to economic disparities, gender equality, and more. Right now, Joel is focused on comic book illustrations and writing stories for his series Hoody, a hip-hop graphic novel.

Na’iim Shareef (@inkpen_tv) Na’iim joins us on the Black Superheroes Matter Podcast. Na’iim is an Atlanta, Georgia native crediting a lot of his work to the cities influence. A storyboard artist for network tv shows like Netflix’s Stretch Armstrong and FX’s Archer, a comic book illustrator, and cofounder of DAGGERSHOT STUDIOS that animates for tv, film, and advertising, Na’iim found his calling in animation at a very young age. Now, with five years and counting in the industry there’s still a lot more Na’iim plans on accomplishing. Lately, he puts his energy into his creative agency and telling stories through 2D animation with anime style influences.

Alfred Stewart (@isshoni.webcomic,  @NDGOink) Alfred joins us on the Black Superheroes Matter Podcast.  Alfred is a Georgia native who incorporates Atlanta into the setting in his web toon titled Issho Ni. Being a “one man studio”, Alfred does his own character creations, scripting, directing, and  illustrations also shown in his we comic titled COUNTER AGENTS. With over 30 years of experience in graphic design and other mediums, he’s well versed in traditional and digital arts focusing on the sequential arts and animation.

N. Steven Harris (@nstevenharris) joins us on the Black Superheroes MatterPodcast. Steven has had a career in the comic book industry spanning for over 30 years and counting. You may have seen some of his work with Deadpool, Batman, Robin, Voltron and more. A New Jersey Native with roots planted in Harlem, Steven was able to connect with the art scene and find his path in becoming a 4 time Glyph Award winning and Graphic Novel Diversity Award wining penciler. Never censoring his Blackness, we sat down to talk about how this is the perfect time to unapologetically show yourself who you are through your artwork.

Dawud Anyabwile (@brothermancomix) Dawud joins us on the Black Superheroes MatterPodcast. Dawud is an Emmy Award Winning and two time Glyph Comics award winning Illustrator and comic artist from Philadelphia, PA who’s based in Atlanta, GA. He began his career as an artist in 1984 by airbrushing T-shirts at The Gallery Mall of Philadelphia and later went on to become a catalyst for the contemporary Black Comic book movement. Currently running his own company, Big City Entertainment, Dawud talks about taking ownership of your art and the strategies of distributing it while navigating the comic book industry as a Black artist.

Frederick Jones (@saturday_am) Frederick joins us on the Black Superheroes MatterPodcast. Frederick is the founding publisher of the world’s most diverse manga brand, Saturday AM. With over a decade long career in the video game industry, he decided to start his own company centered around developing up and coming creators from around the world that share his love of manga and anime. Saturday AM gives Black people, women, LGBTQ, and other marginalized groups a platform to showcase their talent and invest in their future. In this podcast episode, Frederick inspires his audience to have a greater sense of ambition that can spark creativity in others.
