Lucas teaches theatre at the University of Michigan, where she also serves as the Director of the Latina/o Studies Program and works with the Prison Creative Arts Project. In this first episode, we interview Edward "Barakah" Sanders, who is a former juvenile lifer and recent UM School of Social Work graduate. Join us as we talk with Barakah about the need for reentry & mental health-based programming in the prison system, the importance of juvenile justice advocacy, and his own life experiences, accomplishments, and personal advocacy in the years since his release.
