The Marvel Of Agile is a series of discussions using heroes and antagonist from media and talking about different concepts and topics that Agile touches on.

In the first The Marvel Of Agile, we explored some roles on a typical software development team using Scrum to imagine who might best fit the roles. The idea there was to explore the personality types we each thought were important to success in that role. In this episode, we explore a little bit about how those people in those roles might become a team.

In one of the ways that Agile is all around us, we take the streets of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to discuss team dynamics where forming a new team. In some cases, the individual talents can be overshadowed by the dynamics of team interactions and as the world of available talent broadens, so must we broaden our ability to navigate and influence those interactions to create opportunity for high functioning teams.

This discussion will come in two parts. This episode focuses on choosing a team from the characters within the MCU based on a standard cross functional digital team working in Scrum. We pick characters for 4 roles on this type of team and discuss who has a long way to go in being a general manager and drafting people.

  • The HOW Of Your Agile: Does it matter how you learned about Agile?

A thought exercise with Patrick Norton, we discuss whether it matters HOW the people who are charged with mentoring and coaching an Agile mindset come into Agile.

Over the course of a few decades, we have met many people who have been hired to support Agile as a way of working. My belief is that it is a multi dimensional way to approach work, and this, takes someone with experience to really move the ball beyond doing Scrum et al. As with anything, people have different stories on how they came upon it and why they chose this path. I have often wondered how important that is for what they are trying to accomplish with teams and organizations.
