Abi’s Take: Breaking the Silence

  • Summary

  • Do you feel safe at school? 16-year-old Abigail Scully, a dancer and cheerleader from Slidell Louisiana, tells us about her sexual assault – which happened at her own school, during school hours. Hear how this painful event triggered her eating disorder and other mental health issues. We explore the ways Abi has found healing through her dance community and professional help, including a form of trauma therapy called EMDR, which we hear about from EMDR therapist Dr. Uri Bergmann. If you or someone you know is struggling with an eating disorder, the National Eating Disorders Association has a helpline at 1-800-931-2237. If you're considering self-harm, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline 1-800-273-TALK or the Crisis Text Line by texting HOME to 741741.
