About this listen
The proliferation of social media platforms and our increasing reliance on the internet for connection and communication has caused the line between the “real” world and the online world to blur. So much of our lives can be impacted by online interactions—and not all those interactions are positive. Why does the internet seem to encourage bad behavior from some users? Why do we feel we need to share so much of our private lives with the online world? Is screen time really as addictive as the headlines say?
In the 10 lectures of The Psychology of Online Behavior, you will join Dr. Nicola Fox Hamilton to look at the many ways our reliance on the internet has changed the way we interact with one another and has redrawn the boundaries of social life. You will explore the realms of online dating, gaming, and shopping, as well as examine the ways the internet allows for a variety of experiences, both positive and negative. As you dive into the nature of the virtual world, you will see how this technology has altered how we live in complex and ever-evolving ways.
With the knowledge you will glean from these lectures, you will be able to make more informed decisions about what you share and what you consume online and develop a more thorough understanding of 21st-century communication. As you explore what research tells us about online life, from misinformation and cyberbullying to the psychological benefits of online communities, you may find that you reexamine your own relationship with the internet—and the people on the other side of your screen.

Wide Ranging and Enlightening
I wasn't sure what to expect from this, but I certainly didn't realise it would be so wide ranging. Topics covered include online shopping, gaming, online dating, scams, and more.
It was really fascinating and I got insight in to my own behaviour.
Delivery is a bit stilted compared to some other Audible lecture series, but Nicola Fox Hamilton is clear and easy to understand.
Well worth a listen.

Every chapter is amazing a must listen!
Thought it was so good every chapter makes you rethink how you view online behaviour having an 11 year old son as he spends more time online it was good to think about some of the positives he will and does experience. It now lit a spark and I want to learn more about cyber psychology. I’m now off to think about what kind of online shopper I really am!

succinct, topical, informative.
Conveniently broken down into 20-30 minute "lectures" or chapters, clear, concise, interesting and enjoyable. Very topical and opens up new avenues of thought. Well done Nicola.

Real insights, expertly presented
This is a really excellent course, avoiding click-bait style misinformation and presenting a truly balanced view of this really interesting topic. It’s based on real research, not opinion, and provides lots of fascinating nuggets of information which helps to inform our own online habits, as well as giving us assorted facts about online behaviour to share with friends.

biased
I feel like she spent most of the time trying to convince listeners that social media and technology are better for society than the news etc tells us, even though everyone can see the negative effects with our own eyes (social media addiction, 6 year old children being bullied on tik tok or children being exposed to social media in general at a way too young age, etc)
