About this listen
When engineer Avery McAndrews is offered a last-minute assignment to the rough and tumble border town of Zapata, Texas, she doesn’t think twice. Used to pushing past stereotypes, she’s sure this project will earn the long-awaited promotion.
Instead, she’s thrown in the crossfire between warring drug cartels and soon, discovers that her captor, Javier Ramos, is more than just a power-hungry drug lord. He’s crazy.
As lead attorney for the cartel, it’s Alejandro DeLeon’s job to manage Javier. But this time, Javier’s cruelty reaches epic proportions, and Alejandro finds himself wanting to risk everything to save Avery.
Running for their lives with Mexico’s underworld at their heels, Avery and Alejandro discover unintended and intensifying emotions, feelings neither sought and neither seem prepared to control.

Knight in amour ?
Strange, gritty adventure where female oil engineer gets kidnapped by Cartel operatives in Mexico. Life-like descriptions of the kidnap, the imprisonment in a brothel, the endurance, the filthy conditions, the beatings, the escape aided by an undercover possible secret agent is at odds with the the lead up to the night they consummate the relationship, where over 6 hours into the story it ends at the bedroom door. In a book written in 2019 one does not expect coy prudishness; the reader of a gritty story expects more details of him and certainly of their night together, especially after we learn what a good dancer he is and how he is the best looking man she has ever seen. And for the writer to omit such detail infers she is afraid to, or not able to. It is a disappointment, especially as the story is so beautifully narrated, and where you want to hear the narrator voice the words of sex, of passion and of love.
The treatment of the relationship made me immediately lose interest in the story and lose confidence in the writer and not finish, as I couldn't bear more omitted detail and unfulfilling scenarios.
Don't bother with this book.
