About this listen

Big Brother Is Watching You: The words are inextricably associated with the classic dystopian novel 1984 and with its revered author, George Orwell. The Modern Scholar series continues its exploration of great authors with this course from esteemed professor Michael Shelden. In these lectures, Orwell, who also penned the epitome of the political satire, Animal Farm, is discussed in full, from his childhood in Henley-on-Thames to his final days.

Very informative and accurate but this narrator is very irritating to listen to. He is doing a lecture style but it's insincere

Really unpleasant and terrible diction. I wish I'd just bought the book. The narrator's tone and diction is all wrong, sadly. He also sounds like a 17 year old actor in a soap opera. Apologies to biographer because It is enlightening. I can't listen to this guy's voice anymore though.

Delicious, improved with more Moisture

The personal details of Eric's life were delicious. A man who lived his love. His love was political literature in novels and commentary. Through this I felt an expression of his concern for mankind; which perhaps he lacked ability to vocally project . In some cases he seemed to protect others from themselves. From their own prejudices, their own lack of ambition or belief that improvement was good for their families and communities. He held firm, in the face of huge opposition, which would have made lesser men crumble. Now his views are the mainstream. It is rare that excellent vocal delivery and scholarly research reside in the same individual. Perhaps we have been spoilt by voice of Christopher Hitchens.
