About this listen

I was there when it happened. I watched her disappear....

An emotional and addictive psychological drama from the author of the critically-acclaimed novel, What She Never Told Me.

Lillian had phoned telling her to get Skype up and running. 'I have so much to tell you.' Then, the knock on the door. 'Sorry Orla, I'd better see who it is' she said. Orla waited. Seconds became minutes. She didn't know how long she waited before she realised that something terrible had happened.

For more than a decade, Lillian's disappearance has remained unsolved, and Orla has found it impossible to move on.

Then she receives an unexpected visit from Ned Moynihan, the detective who led the original investigation into her friend's vanishing. Moynihan has been receiving anonymous notes accusing him of having failed to investigate the case properly. He assumes the notes are coming from Orla, yet Orla knows nothing of these letters.

Is somebody trying to tell them the truth about what really happened to Lillian that night?

INTRIGUING, ATMOSPHERIC MYSTERY THRILLER

I was enthralled by this fresh, unique and beautifully written thriller set in Ireland so much so I eschewed TV for two nights to listen in. The opening was captivating and clever - what would you do when skyping a close friend when they just are called to answer the door and never come back? Exciting premise. Loved the characters and the subplots and back stories and was well gripped by the twists and turns. Excellent natural narration from both actors really brought the story to life while still allowing it to tell its tale without over dramatising the read. I will really be looking forward to the next Kate McQuaile thriller as I really loved her elegant, polished style of writing as well as excellent as well thought out plot, moody, evocative seaside setting and multi dimensional storyline. Gentle but captivating, this mysterious thriller is a real treat which you can get totally immersed in and the writing was so good I feel like I just came back from an Irish Holiday! I know there is an earlier book so just hoping it is as fab as this one.

A great book, great narration.

It is extremely unusual for me to score straight fives in all categories, very often the narration sadly lets the book down. That has never been so with any book I have listened to narrated by Aoife McMahon to the extent I look for books narrated by her, which should surely the wrong thing to do, if those selecting narrators were more circumspect with their choices!
Taking nothing away from author, it wasn’t just down to narration, this book has been such an interesting and enjoyable listen, I found it hard to stop listening! My only bit of sadness at finishing the book is that I see the author, Kate McQuaile has only one more book, on audio anyway?
