About this listen

One moment Shelley has everything - three beautiful children, an adoring property magnate husband, and the life of her dreams. Then Charlie’s business empire crashes and he vanishes. When Charlie’s estranged mother, Vera, opens her doors to the broken family, secrets emerge that reveal there was more to Charlie than meets the eye. Maybe Charlie’s family is simply better off without him....

Intelligent, thoughtful and enjoyable read/listen

Who was your favorite character and why?

Vera was my favourite. She is an elderly woman whose character is written as richly as the rest (unusual). I feel sure she would be excellent company for a nice lunch!

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

All three narrators did an excellent job in differentiating characters and accents.

Any additional comments?

This is my first book by this author, but it definately won't be my last. I loved it. The characters are more intelligently written than those in so many other books in the genre. Each one has real depth. The story is very engaging and the ending isn't twee as it so often is.

Excellent narrator!

What made the experience of listening to Without Him the most enjoyable?

Both the story and the narrator were excellent. The mystery surrounding Charlie, the husband who disappeared, kept me guessing until the end. I tried not to listen to the book too quickly as I wanted the story to go on and on. I look forrward to my next Fiona O'Brien book!

Easy listen

A well read story. The web wove nicely around all the characters and the end, though predictable, was grand. I liked Vera’s life the best, the matriarch of the family. And as they say, history does repeat itself
