About this listen

Some problems you can’t solve with magick - and some you can.

After a homophobic pagan group rejected him, Lars Kendall is a solitary heathen on the Northern Path, loyal to the gods of the Norse pantheon. But being on his own sucks. So when he finally meets a mixed group of other queer witches and magick users, it’s like finding family. If family involved exploring past lives and casting spells.

Rhys Turner quit a stressful job in the city after his high-strung boyfriend of six years walked out. He sold the expensive flat in central London and bought a run-down house out in the suburbs. Never mind that it needs walls knocked down, its garden landscaped, and what the hell is up with that carpet?

With his health failing, Rhys is desperate for a clean slate and a new start. He isn’t ready to fall in love with anybody, least of all the hunky builder who looks like he’s stepped out of a TV show about Vikings - tattoos, long hair, and all. But as strong and loyal as Lars is, he also has a very soft heart, which might be the hardest thing for Rhys to resist.

☯️ Magick? Miracle? Modern Medicine?

Rhys is drawn to Lars’ optimism, earthiness, gorgeousness but conflicted about loving Lars as Rhys' health is failing. Lars decides to use everything in his spiritual toolkit to fight for the health of his perfect man so they can be together. There is friendship, romance, sensuality and a dreamy HEA but Witches of London's focus is paganism. Through Lars we explore 1️⃣ asatro, astrology, atheism, auras, energy work, past lives, tarot; 2️⃣ esoteric practices like grounding, ritual magic, smudging, trances, visualisation; 3️⃣ the symbolism of houses, jewelry, tattoos; and 4️⃣ inner peace from finding tolerance, acceptance and kindred spirits.

🎧 Matthew Lloyd David's voice acting is an absolute joy for narrator driven audiophiles. He sets the tone, creates the atmosphere and vocalizes the mystical vibes. ✨️Perfectly ✨️ Mr. Davies' total command of his voice means his shifts in cadence, rhythm, pitch and breathing are seamless, especially when conveying the ethereal realms. Again and just as perfectly, MLD judges emotions so when Rhys + Lars hit a low point it is hellish and raw. Other than this and the palpable worry about Rhys’ health, Witches of London is low angst, low drama, languid and very restrained story-telling aka you could get bored if not in the mood?!! However, this narrator knows what needs doing to immerse you in the narrative and does so!
