About this listen

Award-winning filmmaker, author, music executive, and mental health champion tells all in this laugh-and-cry-out-loud memoir about her spiritual self-discovery along a star-studded path. Witch Hairs is the true story of a remarkable life and a guide to how to live it. It’s the story of true love, of how to get it and how to give it.

Dixie Gamble left a small North Carolina town as a divorced young mother of two boys and became the first female president of Elektra Asylum Music, a publishing division of Warner Bros. Records in Nashville. She guided the careers of Pam Tillis, Lewis Storey, and many others. A second marriage to one of the most storied record producers in the country led to another divorce and a deeper longing to find answers to her lifelong questions.

She found those answers, piece by piece, along a tumultuous celebrity-filled journey. On one hand dining with the likes of Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Elton John and traveling the Australian outback alone, she also experienced crushing pain for her mentally ill son and spent years searching for the human whose soul her own remembered and craved. Armed with plenty of Southern gumption and humor, Gamble takes listeners by the hand and shows them every tug at her soul and the fulfillment she found, each pluck of what was and a map to what should be. Part memoir, part atlas to the soul of the universe, Dixie Gamble hides nothing of her journey to find both herself.... And John.

"Each essential life narrative, be it light witch hairs or dark witch hairs, creates synchronicity with our soul's mission to expand. It's the natural state of the Universe and belongs to us all." - Dixie Gamble, from Witch Hairs

Includes 12 songs from the companion CD, Chiaroscuro, produced by John Jorgenson.

A fascinating and emotional read

I read the book a couple of years ago, on its release. But to listen to the book narrated by the author you hear it as Dixie wanted it to be heard. You can hear the emotion, frustration, desperation, affection. Brilliant. As for the songs, I cannot pick one single song above the rest. A PERFECT selection of singers and songs by Dixie's husband, John Jorgenson. I cannot recommend this audio book enough.
