About this listen
A house in the mountains, the roads to and from it impassable. The perfect place for best-selling author Peter’s annual holiday; a refuge from the pressures of life and an opportunity to recharge his creative batteries in solitude.
A dream location.
Except this year, something else has taken residence on the snow-covered slopes, something filled with malignant intent and a desire to kill. Driven by impulses beyond its ken, it seeks out the house in which Peter is staying and the writer soon finds himself in a battle with the deadliest of foes, a creature born of nightmares…

A good solid tale that could do with an extra hour
What begins as a simple get away soon to work on his book soon turns into a nightmare for mystery and horror author Peter Hamilton when he is beset by 'something' with a taste for human blood.
A pretty standard affair on paper but I found myself enjoying the musings of the author and (what I feel was likely a little inside dig) the annoyance they felt with the actions of some fans but, I'll be honest, when things take a turn for the worst, I did feel that the character was maybe a little less affected than I'd have expected.
This isn't to say the book wasn't fun, I did enjoy the tale but again I felt it maybe took a little too long to get going and was then over too soon.
But at the end, the twist did a lot to redeemed the book for me but I just felt it could've done with being an hour longer in the middle.
All in all it is a good solid tale with great narration and a satisfying ending so well worth your time.
