About this listen
Why Cry? is a children's book that was written as much for children as it was for adults.
Often, we see and hear of things children do because of their innocence and the simple way that they see life. These things often teach, remind, and sometimes even inspire us as adults to look at the way we are living our lives so we can change and enjoy life more.
Too often as adults, we get too busy with life and forget to just take a moment for ourselves. When we don't stop to take a breath, we often let things get on top of us and soon find ourselves mired in problems, disappointment, and negativity.
Why Cry? reminds us as adults of the beauty that there is to see in the world, if we only stop to take the time to appreciate it.
A young boy, who thinks his mother is crying, tells her about all the beautiful reasons in the world why she should not cry. His mother, we realize later, is not crying, but cutting onions!
Francois was inspired to write this story when he saw a young boy crying outside the school where he used to read stories for children. Francois managed to calm him down by showing him a book and promising to read it to him, after which he stopped crying and was happy to go to class with Francois.
