Summary

Reading David Luddington is “Like reading your favourite sitcom.” – Nigel Planer

The funniest book of the year.” – Claire Ashton, Editor, the Book Reviewer.

Retired stage magician turned professional mystic debunker, John Barker, finds his sceptical beliefs under fire when he encounters a strange man who claims to be Merlin. After several unsuccessful attempts to rid himself of his increasingly unpredictable companion, John finally relents and agrees to assist in the man’s crazy mission, to find the true grave of the mythical King Arthur. Following a hidden code contained within the text of a soft porn novel, they gather a growing entourage of hippies, mystic seekers and alien hunters as they leave a trail of chaos across the south west of England.

When the group comes to the attention of a TV Reality Show producer looking to make a fast profit out of harmless eccentrics and fading celebrities, John decides it’s time to take charge and prove one way or the other, the identity of this mysterious person who claims to be a fictional wizard. Whose Reality Is This Anyway? is a warm-hearted tale of what it means to be an individual and to follow one’s dreams. With his trademark cast of oddball characters and absurd situations, David Luddington once more transports us into a world where who you are is more important than what you are.

David Luddington epitomizes the elusive quality of writing that he perpetuates - the British Comedy.” – Grady Harp

Terrible narrator

Easy listening story but Narrator was terrible. No idea where his accent is from but even in his “narrator” accent he pronounces even basic words strangely. Place names are unrecognisable, and other words are just so wrong it’s irritating. I don’t know where he is from but it sounds more like an American trying to do an impression of an English accent. In addition to the terrible pronunciation, he has a very smarmy posh way of talking, which means you just want to punch the characters. Totally spoils character’s who just come across as arrogant d£&ks

Gripping story, wonderful humourivity to his char

This author has great humour, versatility and sensitivity to his characters. And there is always a gentle love element and the main guy usually gets his lady in the end. I am on the 5th of 7 books (readable in any order as individual stotylines), and this is one of the best. Excellent listen in all ways! Please write more David.

Great story. Strange oration.

The reader Mr Thornton has a weak grasp on place names and even managed to get Taunton wrong, his accent was all over the place and certainly not West Country or Somerset.

Neil Planer has made better jobs of reading books and maybe for future readings he could be engaged for Mr Luddingtons books which are excellent.

But that said even overlooking the odd way this book was read it was still engaging and well worth listening to.

Dreadful narration

Really enjoyed the story, the author has a great sense of British humour, but story ruined by the narrator, mis prounced place names and character voices kept changing apart from the character of Merlin who consistently sounds like Yoda.

A good book destroyed by a terrible narrator

An entertaining story, wrecked by a hamming, mis-pronouncing narrator that turned characters into irritating caricatures!

appalling narration

An engaging story, to be expected from this author, almost entirely ruined by the narration. The pronunciation is far from English - of any variety - and fails on counties, place names and even food items. 'Pastey' rather than 'pastie' for instance. not only that but the emphasis is more miss than hit, as if read by an alien.
So very disappointed to have a good, fun story undermined by entirely wrong choice of narrator.

Bring back Nigel Planer.

Totally surreal story

Very funny and enthralling but narration leaves a lot to be desired !
Accents are awful and so is the pronunciation of a lot of the words!

Another good story but almost completely ruined by terrible narration.

Amusing story line, terrible narration! No consistency and some really weird accents and pronunciation. Shame because I have really enjoyed all the other David Luddington books.
