Summary

USA Today best-selling author Claudia Burgoa pens a thought-provoking emotional duet that works through the angst of finding love amidst past hurts and the pain associated with not belonging, not fitting in.

He says they can both love me. Protect me. Be the men I need. Can I possibly believe them?

Every one of my relationships—from hookups to business partners—begins and ends with an NDA. Hell, I’ve never even been on a real date. That’s what happens when your famous, secretly gay parents go to extremes to protect their kids from the media’s unrelenting spotlight.

In a life where I try on and cast off pet projects like I change my socks, two people generate the kind of chemistry that holds my interest. Believe me, that’s saying something.

There’s my brother’s business partner, Tristan Cooperson. Mr. Hot Suit. Professional overthinker. Doesn’t just avoid mixing business with pleasure. He doesn’t mix pleasure with…anything.

Then there’s the beautiful bartender Thea Dennis. Skittish as the butterfly gracing the logo of one of her many side gigs. Hiding her past like a wounded dragon guarding its hoard.

Can you picture it? Tristan, Thea, and me. The perfect love. Untouchable by all the bad things of the world. Or capable of dragging us through the nine circles of hell.

Who We Are is the first book of the Perfect Everlasting duet. A polyamorous relationship packed with angst and two hot AF men.

Note: Part of this book was published under Uncut and significantly expanded.

Tristan, Thea and Matthew!

Matthew did not have a conventional childhood, so it isn’t surprising that the path he chose wasn’t conventional as well. He wants a life with Tristan however when Thea comes into his life he realizes that she completes the life he wants.

Tristan comes from an affluent family but with that comes expectations and it doesn’t include being in a relationship with another man let alone a man and a woman, so he is struggling between the future that others have planned for him and what his heart wants.

Thea has a overcome a difficult past and has fought for the life she has created but a part of her fears that her past could catch up with her and destroy everything.

The characters of Matthew, Tristan and Thea are very different, but they fit together in a way that is unexpected. They take us on an emotional journey that leads up to a cliffhanger that leaves us wanting more of them and their story. The angst and emotion is easily felt through the narrators as well as the personalities of all three characters.

what a book

I loved everything about this book. Matthew, Thea, and Tristan are going to be perfect. I can just tell 💜
There are some really hard topics in this book, but they are written so well. I just wanted to hug Tristan when we find out the things that happened to him when he was younger and then again when we get more insightbunto Thea.
Matt is the perfect golden retriever character he is so sweet to Thea and Tristan, and I can't wait for the next book to see more of them all together.

The narrators were absolutely perfect for this book. they briught the characters to life phenomenally.

i cant wait to jump straight into book 2 and enjoy more from these characters.

Enthralling & Moving! Great Story & Narration🎧

The Decker triplets are some of the most intriguing characters, how could they not be since they have the most intriguing parents, Chris Decker and Gabe Colthurst. I loved Ainsley’s story in the “Unexpected Everlasting” duet and Jacob’s story in the “Somehow Everlasting” duet, and have been waiting for Matthew Decker’s story to come to audio and I would like to say Claudia Burgoa saved the last brother for last, but I can’t since it would not be fair to take away from the other sibling’s books and they are all equally amazing. While it is not necessary to have read or listened to the other siblings’ books, I highly recommend you do, starting with Ainsley’s story, you meet and hear about her brothers and it touches on what their family life was like in that book.  Claudia Burgoa takes her readers and listeners on an emotional rollercoaster ride with her first book of the “Perfect Everlasting”, the story captivated my attention and tugged on my heartstrings the entire time and I could not tear myself away from it. Matthew Decker does not get one love interest, he gets two, Tristan Cooperson and Thea Dennis. Tristan is Matthew’s brother's work partner, and he is working with him while Jacob is on his honeymoon. Matthew likes what he sees when he first meets Tristan, even propositions him, but Tristan wants none of that and tells him he is not gay. Matthew tells him he is not gay either, he just goes with whoever he wants, no labels necessary. He could see it is a touchy topic for Tristan, and the more he gets to know him, the more he realizes he has some serious issues and skeletons in his closet. Tristan wants Matthew but can not have him because he can not be who he really wants to be, thanks to his parents doing a number on him growing up. Thea tends bar at the Silver Moon, and is finishing school to become a therapist. She is a former child actor and her parents were leeches and took advantage of her in the worst ways possible. It left her damaged, but she dug herself out of a hole, reinvented herself and was doing the best she can to make the most out of life. Her life takes another turn when Matthew and Tristan enter it. It was great to watch these three start a new relationship and get to know each other. There were obstacles and hurdles to jump and l admired Matthew for his patience with both Tristan and Thea. Tristan was great with Thea too and it was also great to watch him coming into his own, though he is still a work in progress, well actually all three are. This is a beautifully written and plotted story has plenty of drama, angst, heartfelt emotions, and some steamy romance. There are lots of layers to the story and the complexity of the characters is phenomenal. Claudia Burgoa, thank you for another amazing story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 And for the fabulous narration and lineup of talent, did an amazing job of bringing these characters and story to life. Jason Clarke, Erin Mallon and Teddy Hamilton are experienced narrators and that experience reflected in their performance. They had a complete understanding of the characters they were portraying, gave each a voice that fit that character perfectly and were believable in every role they played. Clarke nailed it as Tristan, he grasped every side of his personality, including his tormented side, and his caring side, and everything in between. Hamilton’s Matthew was perfection, full of personality and so likable. Mallon, as Thea was also perfection, she too grasped every side of her personality, including her vulnerabilities and fears. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the character’s emotions and projected them into their performance, making you feel every single one. These versatile voice artists are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another exceptional listen.

Matthew & Tristan & Thea

Who We Are is so perfectly angsty I’m not sure if I should scream, cry or smile after listening to the first book in the Perfect Everlasting Duet.
I want to scream because what the effing eff are those people thinking?? You can’t do that to a child!! How is this ok???
I want to cry because how does this still happen in an age where we all learn to accept people as they are but also how is this ok???
I want to smile because I’m happy they all found each other. Matthew, the perfect person; Tristan and Thea, two broken souls that deserve so much more then they got in life.

I sincerely hope they find their true happiness in the final book. Not just with each other but with themselves.

Jason Clarke, Teddy Hamilton and Erin Mallon narrate Tristan, Matthew and Thea. These three are the perfect voices for their characters and have done a stellar job.

A unique story by Burgoa!

I’ve read so many of Claudia Burgoa’s books and with each story she manages to craft an amazingly unique story that captivates me every single time. Burgoa leaves us with a cliffhanger in this story of a couple of three. Each of the characters is dealing with their own things and their struggles are unique to their characters in the first part of this duet. This was a wild ride and I can’t wait to see where the story will go in the second part of this duet.

Jason Clarke, Teddy Hamilton and Erin Mallon were phenomenal in their narration of this book. They conveyed the characters emotions so beautifully and made listening to this book so much better!

Draws me in and now I need to know more!

Now this is what I love about Claudia Burgoa. She write a story that tugs at the heart strings, add some frustration to my heart and keep me riveted to see what will happen next. This is Matthew Decker's story, the third of the triplets and boy is he a bit complicated. He knows who he is, and is not afraid of it. Attracted to both Tristan and Thea. Tristan comes from a strict up bringing and is still doing his best to abide by his parents rule. Even as an adult, it is hard to step away from the programming he has endured. But there is something about Matt he can't stay away from. Thea has a lot of baggage, but these two men are going to do what they can to help her work through it. This book is mostly a get to know you story, and it will break your heart and make you want to see what is going to happen to these three. It's riveting and intriguing. Get ready, as this is a bumpy ride in the beginning. I look forward to see where Claudia takes us next.

With the trio of Jason Clarke, Erin Mallon and Teddy Hamilton, it is impossible to stop listening to this audio. Clarke is the stoic Tristan, working to keep his feelings in check and hesitating at every turn. He makes it easy and frustrating to feel all of his emotions. Mallon is Thea, full of feelings as she goes stumbles through the many obstacles she has to face. A better person could not have been chosen to create the realism she does. And Hamilton as Matthew. This caring, easy going, incredibly patient man is perfectly played by Teddy. He becomes this person with such an ease, you think he's really Matt! It's an incredible listen.

MMF with an angsty emotional spicy story

🎧 Audio book review 🎧

As an Mmf book you may start this believing that the story would centre around the polyarmous romance , but each character also has their own stories to tell, demons to face and up hill battles to climb . This means that there is a lot going on and sometimes I did need to take a quick break to gather my thoughts to check I was following what was going on.

Matt comes across with his care free attitude happy in his sexuality , moving through life unscathed but is hiding some big secrets from his family , often feeling the inferior sibling alongside his triplet brother and sister.

Tristan has been brought up in a very religious household and faces a constant battle with himself and his attraction to Matt.

Then we have Thea who is hiding from the world and trying to change her life

The book does end on a cliffhanger, so you need to be really prepared to go into book 2 to get all the answers. We don’t get any real answers to any of the stories in this part of the duet. But it sets some great ground work where you want to know what is going to happen with each character not just their relationship

Along the angst and drama we get plenty of spice between the 3 characters .

The audio of this book is fabulously narrated by Teddy Hamilton , Jason Clarke and Erin Mallon.
