Amazing Insight
As a 64 year old white man brought up on a NE English .. largely white .. Council estate this book enabled me to gain an incredibly well informed and beautifully written insight into the roots .. and the struggles that underpin genres of music that as an old .. but still curious .. and hopefully caring .. white man .. I could never have gained in such a fascinating and informative form. I hesitate to say I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of listening to the book as there is much sadness and that is wrong in many of the underlying themes of the book. To the author .. “WELL DONE” .. you are a credit to your family and have an excellent literary talent !!

A lyrical history telling
What a vibrant way to tell the story of Black music and socio-political changes in one book. I truly enjoyed this - more than I thought.

A beautiful listen 🫶
His rhythmic writing made for a beautiful listen.
It’s described as a social history of British Rap and modern Britain, but the collection of personal stories takes it into a genre undefined.
Aniefiok has a special way of identifying the human truths buried in peoples collective experience. “A dream takes root in a place before you arrive.” This is so true of the Windrush generation.
I’ve listened to this book, now I want to read it and I rarely read.

Riveting, beautiful storytelling!
I couldn’t stop listening! Aniefiok has an incredible way with words, honestly his story telling is so poetic! Expect to go through many emotions within this book, especially if you’ve had lived experiences of the grime era. Thank you to the author for realising how important this piece of work is, this will be studied for generations to come
