About The Author

Pieter Elsen, author of When Souls Awaken – Real-life accounts of past-life and life-between-lives Regressions, was born in Holland and has lived in five different countries and on three different continents. Born and educated in The Netherlands, Pieter studied five years at the renowned Design Academy in Eindhoven, specializing in Industrial Design. Though he graduated with honors, Pieter felt there was more to life and set out on a 20-year journey of Self Discovery that brought him to France, India, England and finally the United States. Pieter was a Vedic monk for 21 years, of which 11 were spent in India. While there he studied extensively the deep and spiritual philosophy of the East. He uses this experience and knowledge as a therapist and life coach counselor integrating the Western and Eastern schools of thought. He is licensed by the Michael Newton Institute of Life between Lives Regression.

After coming to the United States he channeled his experience as a gifted motivational speaker and background in philosophy and international cultural diversity into the field of Clinical Hypnotherapy. In 2014, Pieter attained his Ph.D. specializing in Transpersonal and Spiritual Counseling. Pieter’s current focus is on past-life and life-between-lives regression sessions and writes and speaks on this topic, in his blog, and on various shows.

Living like a monk is not required to live a good fulfilled life.

This book leaves you with a lot to think about, how we live, and how it effects our soles progression, how we can have a good life and still live it fully. Great read.

Excellent book.

Excellent Book, interesting and great insight into the spirituality. Some of the topics like awakens souls was a bit far fetched for me, but I guess I am not there yet. It was thought provoking.

Enlightening for Awakening

Narration really brought the sessions to life so you felt like you were in the room witnessing each soul awakening. Inspired me personally to trust my life and purpose and soul path. Beautifully written.

Irritating narration by Lisa Brant

Very Good book, but totally spoiled by the woman narrating with frequent irritation in her presentation. I had to fast forward and miss out on important content to avoid her as it affected me in a negative way too much. Note to author, no-one wants to listen to an arrogant, irritated woman whatever the content.

Interesting stories from past life regression

Interesting stories from past life regression. This was different to other books I’ve read which have been more about the actual past lives. This book was more about the in between state.

Too many self-congratulatory philosophical rambles

What can I say? I did not disagree with the sentiments expressed in this book, however if you were expecting something akin to the brilliant Michael Newton's "Destiny of Souls" / "Journey of Souls" (as I was, given the name-dropping in the books description) then I fear you will be as disappointed as I was. Or at the very least; very, very VERY bored. Out of the seven and a half hours of the book's narration, probably less than an hour is dedicated to actual accounts of "life between lives". And there are no real accounts into the "day-to-day" life of spirit in the after-life, which I found so compelling and inspiring in Michael Newton's literature. Instead, the author presents a seemingly endless lecture on how you should be living your life, so that you too can have as smug a soul as he has.
The book has the headline: "Real-life accounts of past-life and life-between-lives regression", so I don't think it was unreasonable to expect the narrative to be driven by this sentiment. However, while the author presents his "cases" / clients as Michael Newton does, instead of presenting a narrative of how souls interact with their environment and each other once they reach the "other-side", Elsen rather uses them to introduce endless lectures on changing the paradigm; money doesn't make you happy... we should work less and live simpler lives... practice yoga... meditate... spend time with our families,,, not eat spicy / fast food... Blah. Blah. Blah. Ad nauseum. Other than "Kim" (all the way in chapter 16), who presents a mildly interesting account of a past-life as a female with foresight, these cases amount to a disappointing repetition of people connecting with their "higher self" and discovering that they should live a simpler, more spiritual life. Or you get to listen to souls having cosmic orgasms saying they don't have the words to describe what's happening to them. Which is dandy, but it doesn't make for a great read. Each client's "experience" per chapter accounts for roughly 5-10 minutes of the narration, with 30-40 minutes then dedicated to monotonous metaphors and ramblings about eastern spiritualism, and over-explanations of simple concepts. Oh - and did he mention his time as a Vedic monk? Only about 1000 times.
As previously stated, whilst I am not in disagreement with the sentiments expressed in the book, I began to find it all a bit self-congratulatory and preachy. It was not my intention to sit through a seven hour lecture, and whilst I couldn't fault the penmanship, I would not have purchased the audio-book was the real narrative (basically we should live a more spiritual life) made clear in the description. Ironic that the author should preach such spiritually enlightened ideals and then deceive readers into purchasing a book by way of name-dropping Michael Newton and his processes, when there are almost no real accounts of "life between lives" presented, other than the odd vague reference to a life-review following death (brilliantly described in Michael Newton's books). In fact, in an act of rebellion myself against the tedium and strife it took to finish this book, I was left with a desire to get drunk, eat a spicy takeaway curry, buy something expensive and unnecessary, and not take my bin in just to annoy my fellow man.
