About this listen
What’s Your Aspiration? is about the Dharma path identified by Shinran (1173-1263), a teacher of Japan’s Kamakura period. He would have us ask: “Can I know whether my spiritual aspiration is true-and-real? Have I realized the right starting point?” If I have not, then the subsequent steps will all be misdirected. If, however, the aspiration is true-and-real, then, according to Shinran, everything else follows necessarily. Such an aspiration contains all that is needed as far as practice and attainment. Rather than hoping for future enlightenment, Shinran’s path is to seek the way here and now, while endlessly deepening the initial aspiration.
