Great lead character
Great lead character but brought to life as always by the narration. Interesting storyline with a few twists, well worth a listen.

90% Love Story, 10% Suspense
So it's mainly a love story. The suspense is waiting to find out what happened to cause Gretchen to overdose.
The story moves between the current time period with Gretchen overdosed, and an earlier & happier time period when Alice met Gretchen and they became best friends.
One of the characters turns out to have manic depression and is thoroughly manipulative. The characters are part of a tight circle and the plot involves stealing a best friend's boy-friend / girl-friend. There's an unwritten rule saying that you shouldn't do that.
Rather tedious in places, and an uncertain final ending. (E.g. Who ended up with whom? Did the taxi driver ever get paid?)

Good, but not the thriller it was made out to be
I enjoyed this, and the narration was done well, but the novel was about 60% drama, 30% thriller and 10% chic lit, which is fine, but not the fast paced thriller I expected. I would still recommend this book as it has a good ending, good plot, is written well and with believable characters. I listened to this book in three days.

Tepid
Starts well and liked the central character but it doesn't ring true in so many places. A story like this demands something of an ending to tie it up. There's no resolution and no ending.
I like Lucy Dawson a lot usually but this one is a waste of a credit. The narration is great but it's not enough.

What every girl needs is a good friend!
Lucy Dawson wove her magic with this story about two women, Alice who is a photographer looking to do more serious work and Gretchen, a children's performer. Our secondary characters are Tom, the faithful but boring boyfriend and Bailey the fun-loving but caring brother.
Alice and Gretchen hit it off with a Alice trying to give the impression she is as fancy free and up for anything like Gretchen when they meet at a photoshoot in New York. Once back in the UK the two meet up again, both looking to use the other's connections when Alice takes a liking to Gretchen's brother.
Let's just say the story turns much darker but not in an outlandish way as the two women find out quite how far they will go to get what they want.
For anyone who wants their reading tied up with a big red bow, you will be disappointed, but personally, I liked the ending.

Well read, but story was missing something.
I am a fan of Lucy Dawson, and normally really enjoy her books, but this one was lacking something. I'm not quite sure what.
The love triangle-square was a simple sub-plot, slightly predictable but pleasant to read all the same.
I think that highlighting some of the struggles that those with a mental illness have to deal with is good, if done right. Also sharing how actions, the overdose, can have severe side effects; the heart attack. However, it is not normally as straight forward as made out here.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the book, but no where near as much as some of the other ones by Lucy, and it wont be one I read/listen to again.
For me, it just didnt tick all the boxes this time.

Let down
It led up to a cliffhanger that never materialised. I think the ending was poor. Could have explored the ending more and the confrontation between Tom and Gretchen

Not yet best book
Struggled with this one. Didnt really care what happened to the characters. Ending was open ended and did not resolve much. Glad to finish.

Shame!
Simple and predictable story line, overloaded with insignificant details which make no difference to the story whatsoever.
When it comes to the ending.. where’s the details? So abruptly ended, what a waste.
Narrator was average..so didn’t help.
