About this listen
Good parents will go to any lengths to protect their children. The Hillens are very good parents.
But with all the secrets in the Hillen household, the biggest one is hiding right under their noses.
When six-year-old Bailey finds a puppy abandoned in a basket on their porch, Clark and Sher have no way of knowing their new pet is a werehuman - an animal that can change into a person.
Now, the genetic engineers of the evil Consortium are searching for them, intent on making Bailey and his unusual pet their newest test subjects. In the face of the unthinkable, will Bailey's strange, misfit family decide to run? Or fight?

Excellent urban fantasy in a promising new series
I love Gwendolyn's narration. I think knowing and picturing her characters and then narrating the book really adds something to it. The story eases us into its world. It's a really relaxed start that I think works really well. We get to know the characters and the situation they are in before the action starts. I like that. I want that detail. Because the author invests the time in delivering this the characters are really clear and vivid.
I also love the idea of the book in terms of what its presenting (read the book synopsis I'm not going to repeat it here). I also like the dialogue from Laylea's perspective. A pet's eye view of the characters and the way she perceives them. I thought that was great and really different/interesting.
It's entertaining and a really great story that builds to an ending that's not drawn out, which I always hate. I'm certainly looking forward to seeing what's next for the family and Laylea!
The narration gives us distinct character differences as well as being easy to listen to. It draws you into the story and keeps you wanting more. Very good.

Unique and original, and totally addictive!
I absolutely loved this book, the characters were well rounded and endearing, the world building was fantastic, and the plot original. I was absorbed from the start, and couldn't put it down, I was so disappointed when I finished the book! The narration was great, very expressive and the short tunes sung as part of the therapy the CF's sang were incredible. I can't wait to start the next book.
