Summary

Real love is nothing like the movies.

BIRMINGHAM, 2024.

When American actor Patrick arrives in England, finding love is the last thing on his mind. Starring in a blockbuster superhero movie, he’s on a strict filming schedule, which does not include coming out as gay. But when Patrick meets Will – a local bookseller and drag performer, whose charm is impossible to resist – the temptation for a secret romance has never felt stronger.

NEW YORK, 1949.

Comic-book artists Charles and Iris aren’t like other married couples. They too are harbouring secrets of a dangerous nature. But together, they are creating a new kind of hero – one who is destined to bring Patrick and Will together… and might just change the world.

Critic reviews

‘I really enjoyed We Could Be Heroes – it was the kind of peppy, smart and fun romantic comedy that, like all the best romcoms, has something important to say about the way we live our lives. Come for the chemistry, stay for the life lessons. A lovely cast of characters, beautifully told… Oh and it was quite horny, wasn't it?!’ (JUSTIN MYERS, author of The Last Romeo)

A sweet love story with an interesting look at queer and pop culture

I really enjoyed this booked! The main characters felt well developed and interesting and I liked the side characters as they were well defined without being stereotypes. I also really loved the flash backs to the original creators their story was poignant and thematically relevant even if it didn’t affect the central plot much.
The narrator did feel a bit stiff at times but I got used to it fairly quickly.
Would definitely recommend as a queer romance

A raunchy romp of a read for the 21st century!

A fabulously written modern day romance with a saucy twist of fantasy and fun!
A great romantic tale, with a hit of LGBTQ+ reality served up to the reader to get you thinking about the world we live in! Well done P.J. Ellis!

A fantastic performance too from the narrator featuring excellent voices to suit the west midlands and L.A. alike!
