Summary

Doctor David Lephmann wants nothing more than to learn about and help the less fortunate, and his new post at Mercy Hospital is the perfect place to do both. His mentor is desperate for the help, and welcomes him to a world of nonhuman customs and strange magics.

One night after a long day at the hospital, David is confronted by the reality of life among monsters, when he intervenes in a fight he knows nothing about. He takes a side, and his life is changed forever.

Sorely wounded, he is thrust into a world of violence and mistrust. With no way back to his old life, he must fight for a place in the new one he's been plunged into, but David has never had to fight for anything in his life. Can he survive the challenge?

Way of the Wolf: Shifter 1

Any additional comments?

This is not your run of the mill Shifter/Werewolf book.It goes WAY beyond the lackluster stories which are saturating the markets. The world that Mark E. Cooper has his Shifters in is a world of chaos and balance.Mikael Narramore was an excellent choice for this project. He lends passion and convictions to his characters. You can get lost in his voice and the story.

Not as good as it could have been

Is there anything you would change about this book?

It's too fragmented at the beginning, and although it all comes together towards the end somehow it is not satisfying

Would you recommend Way of the Wolf: Shifter Legacies 1 to your friends? Why or why not?

No, it needs too much patience at the start. I was very tempted to return it at several points.

Have you listened to any of Mikael Naramore’s other performances? How does this one compare?

No, but I was not unhappy wth his performance.

Do you think Way of the Wolf: Shifter Legacies 1 needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

It is clearly written with a follow up in mind as several characters are left hanging, but I won't be listening to them

Any additional comments?

Overall was disappointed with this.

Wide-ranging paranormal thriller

Any additional comments?

There is a large cast of characters in this story, which I normally find difficult to keep track of when only listening to a book (rather than reading). But each character gets a solid amount of point-of-view time before moving onto the next person/scenario, so it wasn't as difficult to keep track as I'd have thought.

Those many, seemingly unrelated, character arcs eventually weave together into a thrilling, confrontational climax - a very satisfying story overall.

The narration was very good - even his Scottish accent (I'm a Scot) wasn't too cheesy ;-) and I've no idea how he kept track of all those different voices - especially when several of them were in the same scene.

Story-wise, I believe this is the first of a series and there was a fair amount of (understandable) explanation/exposition, but usually necessary to the plot and it didn't make things drag.

I am away off to find the next part and download it now :-)

Unexpected find of 2014

Would you consider the audio edition of Way of the Wolf: Shifter Legacies 1 to be better than the print version?

I haven't read the book but found the AudioBook captivating, the performance of Mikael Naramore is very easy to listen to!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Way of the Wolf: Shifter Legacies 1?

For me, as a whole the book leads you into the different universe gently by giving just enough information in small pockets throughout the story to draw you into the world of shifters, down to details like folklore, shifter laws and religion.

Have you listened to any of Mikael Naramore’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I havent listened to Mikael Naramore's other reads yet - but enjoyed this one very much.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

not so much an emotional reaction, but the book certainly pulled me into the shifter world. The writing gives a really solid insightful description from the POV of each character, in turn making it very easy to see through each of their eyes from their own unique perspectives.
