About this listen

Bow Street Runner John Pickett and Julia, Lady Fieldhurst, seem to have reached an impasse as they wait for the annulment of their accidental marriage to come before the ecclesiastical court.

In the meantime, Pickett is summoned to investigate the theft of almost 200 pounds from a linen-draper's shop - but finds no sign that either the shop or the safe where the money was kept had been forced open. Given the lack of evidence, he can only assume the money was taken by someone inside.

With a host of suspects and a hostile hound named Brutus impeding his progress, Pickett must resort to the tricks of his former trade in order to catch a thief in the act.

Great Addition to the Series!

I so enjoy this series! The characters of John Pickett and Lady Fieldhurst are such endearing characters. Joel Froomkin does such an outstanding performance with this series. I love his accents and various voices for the characters. He puts the right emotions into the story. Sheri Cobb South is able to write vivid imagery, that one can envision the various scenes. Although this book is a novella, it is so worth listening to. I can't wait to listen to the next book in the series. This story is both a standalone listen and a continuation of the series. I liked the fact that I wasn't certain who the thief was until it was revealed. I requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review.

lovely little novella

this one concerns John Pickett's skill as a runner as he solves the mystery of the draper's shop robbery. Meanwhile he's thinking about his impossible romance with Lady Fieldhurst, and meets his suave rival for her love. with customary wit, Sheri Cobb South delivers once more. Great performance as usual

I don't doubt your sincerity, John, but ....

A sad and lonely Christmas awaited John Pickett before his kindly boss invited him to join his large family for dinner. And then a crime to solve - the safe of one Mr.Robinson, draper, had been opened and the large sum of money, awaiting banking after the holiday period, had been stolen.
But even as he investigates, John is constantly reminded of Julia, Lady Fieldhurst, his wife in law only, as he miserably awaits the annulment of their marriage.
An enjoyable, if a little sad, continuation of the tale of loves divided by the vast expanse of social expectations, again ably read by Joel Froomkin. Although not essential to the ongoing saga and lacking much of the humour inherent in the novels, this is not to be missed by the followers of this series.

A Short John Pickett Mystery.

In this book we don't see a lot of Lady Fieldhurst and there is a mystery for John to solve. We get a little insight in John's history and what he does during this time of the year. I felt really sorry for him in this book because I saw how lonely he was and in some way he envied his mentor, (who he spent Christmas with), for his family. This is something he wants and has doubts of getting.
