About this listen
Voice of the Wing-Bone Whistle is a story about courage and determination, but mostly comradery and friendship. It's 1938. Twelve-year-old twin sisters, Mireille and Ottilie find themselves away from their English comforts in remote East Africa where they are being hunted down by an experienced gang of criminals. Not only do the girls have to look out for each other, but they also have to tread carefully as around every corner, there is an animal or other creepy crawly slithery creature that wants to bite, sting or eat them alive. Mireille, who lost her voice at a very young age, soon realises that words aren't always important and that she can make her voice heard in many other ways. Her sister Ottilie, normally painfully shy, needs to find an inner strength she never knew she had to help keep her and her family alive. Their adventure stretches from the highest peaks of volcanic mountains to the darkest depths of a crocodile infested lake. In their scramble to avoid being captured, they stumble upon a magical legend that could re-write history. The price of this discovery is very high, though, as the criminals who are on their trail would do anything to get their hands on this object; and if the twins and their friends get in their way, they might even have to pay with their lives.
