perfect escape
Miss Read has a way of transporting you to a way of life, that in my opinion was much better than it is now, no mobile phones, no social media, no games console , a time that i miss.
read perfectly by June Barrie

Miss Read never disappoints!
Miss Read simply never disappoints. Like all of her work, "Village Affairs" is both beautifully written and moving as well as sweetly funny (with the occasional razor-sharp acerbic remark). Fairacre seems both so different and distant - a place worlds and ages away - and yet so timeless and easily recognisable. We all know people like the maddening Mrs Pringle or Miss Read's friend Amy.
Listening to Miss Read always guarantees several hours of pure joy and gentle escapism! Most recommended.

A lovely heartwarming listen
I really enjoyed this listen, a romp through times gone by. The characters are excellent and so well described. It’s not all sweetness and light, as there’s poverty and stress etc, but still feels like a hug in book form.
June Barrie is back as narrator in this one of the series thank god! She really is the voice of Miss Read.

Humour and suspense
The author excels at the portrayal of school and village as it used to be. She writes with warmth and wit.

Another brilliant book in the Fairacre series
I always enjoy the various books about village life in Fairacre, and of Miss Read and her school. I've got to know all the characters well and love to hear of all their trials and tribulations. I like June Barrie's narration too.

Gentle Escapism
This was an enjoyable glimpse of an idealised world that that is long gone and probably never existed.

Disappointed
I have read and listened to lots of Miss Read books, this one is by far my least favourite. I choose these for escapism, but this story didn't quite do this for me.
The narration was good, but Gwen Watford is perfection for these stories.
