Summary
Two years have passed since Vita was arrested by the Inquisition, and her time in prison has not been kind to her.
As Penelope Vesuvius plots a grand breakout while currying favor with the government, the monstrous Lark joins the Church in search of redemption. A conflict between the most powerful forces in Valka is set to simmer, and it's only a matter of time before it boils over...

An uplifting feel good story
Two philanthropic misfits found a forest commune where they challenge institutionalised bigotry and explore what it means to love.

Somehow more psychopathic AND more human
I keep being amazed by Maher's ability to journey into psychopathy and then managing to stick the landing.
Often being 'evil' is portrayed as a very binary 'good' v 'bad' with no sense of the internal morality 'evil' may have.
This series does a wonderful job of showing how fluid and fragile 'heroism' and the perception of 'good' and 'bad' really are.
The only thing is that for some this great and bizarre world she has created might be too 'wild' to be taken seriously enough to get to appreciate the amazing character work and storytelling

Loved it!
I loved our two fucked up idiots and how they enable each other in some delightfully messed up ways. Really hoping we get book 4 here soon!

Fantastic!
This series is just incredible, there are so many thought provoking aspects, incredible fantasy, world design and emotional depth to all the characters. Well read / performed and has just left me stunned and in anticipation for more! A truly incredible author: I recommend this series whole heartedly 💙 Also, an emotional journey so, prepare for that 😉

Good continuation to the story
Decent third book, with less world building than before. I wish power scaling wasn’t so fast, but still enjoyable journey.

Captivating...
In the last book of the series, I had to stop the reading because it made me cry in public.
That never happened in this installment, but I was still taken aback by just how much the author has left to give from this concept.
My favourite theme of 'monster discovering humanity ' continues to permeate throughout this story, but this time the central premise is the loss of the main character's humanity, and how she keeps getting further away from the people surrounding her, and how they keep making her miserable... as she makes them miserable... whether she wants to or not.
I hope you don't mind a main character who is thoroughly misanthropic and won't waste any opportunity to demonstrate exactly why, because this is what this story will give you... and it's going to make you love her.

Just as good as the first 2
I was excited to know that book 3 was coming and when it came out, it was everything I wanted. More of Vita and the world surrounding her. The only downside is waiting for book 4.

too much lark
book 2 was bad enough for random chapters about the side character. this book is worse. just drop the character or keep them to off screen stuff or if it is completely necessary to write boring filler keep them super short
