About this listen
Explore the captivating history of the Vietnam War!
The Vietnam War represented a watershed not only in American and Vietnamese history but also internationally. It wasn’t just a battle between two nations, but between two ideologies, two military strategies, and a fight for the hearts and minds of two vastly different national populations.
Few conflicts in global history symbolize as much as Vietnam. From the civil rights movement to the role of the media in warfare, the Vietnam War was unique in the sense that it could not be contained as a military matter but transcended every area of Vietnamese and American society. The word "Vietnam" describes an era of history, not just an isolated war in a small nation in Southeast Asia. It is the lens through which the America and Vietnam of today must be interpreted. Few conflicts have or will ever shape the world as much as the Vietnam War.
Some of the topics and questions covered in this audiobook include:
- The French and the First Indochina War
- Out of the frying pan, into the fire: The government of Ngo Dinh Diem

Very eye-opening and informative.
Originally, I believed this book was mainly about the U.S.'s involvement in the Vietnam War. Of course, it is, though there's history prior to this event that is solid as well, mainly, the reflection of the French. The Vietnamese, as you will discover, are a very hard-working and resilient people; seriously underrated in their skills. Very eye-opening and informative.

A brilliant telling of the history of Vietnam which shows the before and after of a nation so rapidly exposed to western civilization.

Very factual
Any additional comments?
I suggest this book and the politically unreliable guide to Vietnam. We must start teaching the youth of this country what really passed and give the men who fought the respect and honor they so truly deserve.

Absolutely the best writings on Vietnam
Any additional comments?
This was an interesting book to read, because I had lived through the era, and it brought back many memories.Although Vietnam is now a powerful and very attractive place, apparently with some socialist citizens than we have. As one visiting veteran said, "We get a better response here now than we got returning to America from the war".

Any additional comments?
I liked very much the author's style, typical for a writer that had lived all the events described in this book. This is so the most comprehensive book about this war, full of first-hand accounts.
