About this listen

In her small town, dubbed “Dullsville”, 16-year-old Raven—a vampire-crazed goth-girl—is an outcast. But not for long. The intriguing and rumored-to-be haunted mansion on top of Benson Hill has stood vacant and boarded-up for years. That is, until its mysteriously strange new occupants move in. Who are these creepy people—especially the handsome, dark, and elusive Alexander Sterling? Or rather, what are they? Could the town prattle actually ring true? Are they vampires? Raven, who secretly covets a vampire kiss, both at the risk of her own mortality and Alexander’s loving trust, is dying to uncover the truth.

Ellen Schreiber’s spooky and stirring romance tells the story of two outsiders who fall in love in a town where conformity reigns, and ends with a shocking surprise.

Critic reviews

"This tale slides down easily and will be welcomed by Goths willing to look on the lighter side of their own culture as well as by readers who have an openminded appreciation for the vagaries of their peers and, perhaps, of themselves." ( Booklist)

A quick, enjoyable book. Definite antidepressant

I downloaded this audiobook with the hopes of it being something able to lift my spirits after a hard week. And it was definitely worth it. It's true that it's not magnificent literature, but thats not really what you're asking for when you get it. Its a book that you would like to have on that specific day that your boyfriend broke up with you or you just realised how bad you are at maths. Recommended!

vampire kisses

As a serious vampire junky, I had to buy this book. First up, I actually prefer teen vampire fiction, with a few adullt exceptions, but this book was a bit too teen even for me. While I'm sure teens won't find it a problem, I found Raven, the heroine, rather imature and overly dramatic. Her vampire obsession quickly moves from refreshing to annoying. Also, the story is a clechet in every way, from the spooky setting to the vampires themselves. The character of Alexander was what saved the book for me. He is interesting and I couldn't help but empathise with him. Also, I have to admit to having some curiosity about the rest of the series. The ending was sad, which I wasn't expecting. Basically, teens will love this book, while adults may find it a bit too superficial. Not quite the good read I was expecting.

Disappointing

This would be a cute entertaining short story. But for me the ending was a major disappointment. In fact, it left me quite miserable.
