About this listen
In Up Till Now he tells us about his remarkable life, from training as a Shakespearan actor under Sir Tyrone Guthrie to his time on Broadway, his movie career, and, of course, his successful tv series.
He has worked with an extraordinary range of actors, among them Spencer Tracy, Burt Lancaster, Marlene Dietrich, Judy Garland, Walter Matthau, Sandra Bullock, Ben Stiller, and Robert DeNiro. He also writes, with glee, about some of his less successful ventures, including Incubus, the only feature ever made entirely in Esperanto.
As funny, charming, and self-deprecating as the man himself, this book will delight his many fans of all ages.

An Enterprising actor
A superb listen; the narration is simply fantastic, one of the best narrated autobiographies I have listened to. This is William Shatner narrating not James T Kirk or Denny Crane. This is not just a book for Star Trek fans; you get a real sense of a jobbing actor who loves to act (he rarely turns work down), loves to earn money and loves life.
I would happily have listened to far more than the 6 hours it lasted and for sheer enjoyment I would urge you to buy this.

You don't need to like the guy to enjoy the book.
What a narrator, William Shatner aka Kirk, T J Hooker, and most appropriatly Danny Krane. Reads magnificently he entertains all the way through and you really don't have to like the guy. I picked this up because it was the 'on hold' book when you rang through to audible, and its brilliant.
You will not regret a single second you listen to this whatever your thoughts on the person or the character he plays.

very interesting book
I must admit I knew nothing about William Shatner (except he was in Star Trek - and I hated Star Trek...) before I bought this book, but I do love memoirs and am a bit nosey, so like to hoke and poke about in other people's lives - so just ordered this book on that basis, and, I'm glad I did. This book's opening chapter is second to none - listen to it and you'll know what I mean - laugh out loud, and it is a tale of ambition and success, but also with extreme lows - no-one has it all... Definitely recommend.

laugh out loud...mostly
Thoroughly enjoyed Shatner's sense of humour and narrative. Would have liked it to have been longer, after all the man has done alot over the years.

**** My Captain Says
From the worst rendition of Lucy in the Sky of Diamonds to his Emmy winning performance in Boston Legal, you can forgive Mr Shatner’s inability to prioritise the best of his opportunities. That said, he approaches, without regret, each chapter of his life with the same vigor and determination as the last--which often results in the greatest of wacky anecdotes. His dry sense of humor adds to his charm and affability – just don’t be put off by the abundance of his product placements! All in all, a real tongue-in-cheek adventure where ‘no man has gone before’, and one that even Spock might crack a smile at – slightly.

Great Fun
I confess that I do not normally read showbiz autobiographies, never mind buy them, but I have recently become a fan of 'Boston Legal', in which William Shatner has a leading role, and having read Paul's favourable review above, I thought I would give this book a whirl.
Well I was not disappointed - quite the opposite. It was laugh-out-loud funny at times, interesting, serious and quite sad in parts. To me, william Shatner has a warm sense of humour, doesn't take himself too seriously, is quite able to send himself up, and he doesn't claim to be perfect or right on every occasion - indeed, he comes across as a very likeable individual who has led an interesting and varied life. And his narration is quite superb: it makes the book for me.
One other point to note: this is an abridged version. Now I am not normally a fan of abridged versions, but in this case I think it works well. Indeed, I think my interest might have been tested if the book had been much longer. The abridged length is just right.
Overall, warmly recommended - this book is a lot of fun.

Very entertaining
I wouldn't normally be attracted to a celebrity's autobiography, but having heard William Shatner reading the first chapter of this book on Audible podcast number 7 I was impressed by his engaging and entertaining way with words and self-deprecating sense of humour. His portrayal of Captain Kirk of the Star Ship Enterprise in the first Star Trek series about 40 years ago is the only part of his life I knew about of prior to hearing his story. He's certainly had an eventful life full of ups and downs; elation and heartache; and a much more varied acting career than I had imagined, though, inevitably, there is much about Star Trek, which is a nostalgia trip for those of us who enjoyed the series when young.
He's a good reader of his own words, though he varies the strength of his voice so much, sometimes just whispering, I had to adjust the volume control of my iPod up and down quite often.

Wonderful
I bought this before December and have already listened to it twice (usual thing in the car whilst commuting). It is extremely witty but does have its moments of sadness. Shatner is a brilliant story writer and teller. You will not be disappointed with this purchase.
