About this listen
1919, far northern Queensland.
Fleeing from England and a violent marriage, Eva Willoughby arrives at her childhood friend’s home, a cattle station near the eerie and mysterious Black Mountain, the site of several unexplained disappearances. Although the war is over there is unease, and tensions are rising …
Not long after Eva finds employment as an assistant to Detective Sergeant Jack Shaw at the Ross Constabulary, her friend Sylvia disappears.
Shaken, Eva suspects that Sylvia’s disappearance is connected to the mysterious death of a troubled young soldier. Since her new boss is too preoccupied with a covert operation, and in spite of local superstitions about Black Mountain, Eva embarks on her own dangerous investigation to uncover exactly what happened to Sylvia.

A gripping story!
I loved Under the Black Mountain. I was drawn in by the story, which is an investigation into a missing person by Black Mountain in Australia after the first World War. Historically it is a very interesting read, I had never thought before about the young men coming back to Australia after the war. There is also a lot of psychological insight and discussion about the nature of the 'shadow' aspect of the human psyche. I love the way the author writes, particularly the strong female characters. I really enjoyed the various love relationships being explored. I just can't wait for the next book in the series to see what happens to our heroine Eva.
