Story with potential connected to promising series
To be honest, this wasn't my favourite book by Marla Josephs. This book has a lot of potential but falls short of the mark for me. I think that has more to do with this story being a part of a series. While it is stand-alone, there are lots of subtle tie-ins, mentions and suggestions from previous books that lead me to believe this book would be more enjoyable within the context of the others. Unfortunately I haven't read or heard any other books from the Alexander Ranch series. The characters and their abilities seem interesting and I am curious to know more about the previous books in the original series.
Ethan and Sasha are both characters with special abilities. Ethan can heal and Sasha can pick up energy signatures, for the lack of a better description. They come together in order to help solve a case that seems to be targetting Sasha's friend's brother. I found it a little disappointing that Ethan's heightened abilities didn't really add value to the story and Sasha's ability only marginally helped piece together the clues. I felt their unique characteristics could have really enhanced the plot by adding an element of action. That said, there is plenty of heat between Sasha and Ethan.
D.C. Cole brings the story to life with his narration, carefully showcasing the subtle humourous, serious and sexy nuances.
