Set arswydus o argraffiadau o blentyndod: tywyll, doniol, teimladwy ac weithiau aruchel.
Llyfr bendigedig! Fel dysgwr Cymraeg, darllenais hi —a gwrandewais ar y recordiad hwn—ochr yn ochr â’r cyfieithiad Saesneg ac roedd yn brofiad gwych! Roeddwn i wrth fy modd gyda'r naratif llafar o'r Gogledd (er i mi fyw am ddeugain mlynedd yn Ne Cymru)! Mae i’r nofel lled-hunangofiannol hon am blentyndod ym Methesda o gwmpas amser y Rhyfel Byd Cyntaf lawer o elfennau tywyll, ond hefyd rhai penodau doniol iawn ac ambell eiliadau gwirioneddol aruchel. Roedd y diweddglo, fodd bynnag, yn eithaf annisgwyl a bydd yn cymryd ychydig o amser i mi ei brosesu. Roedd yr adroddwyr yn wych!
A wonderful book! As a Welsh learner, I read it —and listened to this recording—alongside the English translation and it was a great experience! I loved the oral narrative from North Wales (even though I lived for forty years in South Wales)! This semi-autobiographical novel of a childhood in Bethesda around the time of the First World War has many dark elements, but also some very funny chapters and some really sublime moments. The ending, however, was quite unexpected and will take me a while to process. The narrators were superb!
