Speechless

One of the most amazing book ever written!
I would recommend it to anyone. It was mind blowing how it made you feel like you were the characters. Compelling. It was an absolute cliff hanger…

Even if it is a children’s book,as an adult,I loved it! 5 stars all round.

Loved this title. Listened in one sitting. Even though it’s mainly a children’s book,I thoroughly enjoyed and loved it all the way through. Will certainly be looking out for more by this author. The narrator was wonderful and really suited the book. I’m glad the ending was how it was. What a lovely listen. 5 full stars all round. One more for my collection.

Not a child friendly book, murder of a child and racism

I was excited by all the reviews and accolades this book has but I'm really at a loss for why no one has warned others about the descriptive scene where they hang a child! It is absolutely heart breaking and really inappropriate for a kids book. I have no idea how I would have explained that to my children during their bedtime story! Luckily I listen to children's books first with out my kids so I can pick the best ones.... not surprisingly I will not be letting them listen to this book. And what a shame as it could have been a good book. Although another story line I felt very uncomfortable with was the underlying racism towards white British people. If you see me I look white British but I'm very mixed and so are my kids. But they would have found it really confusing hearing the hate towards what they consider themselves to be and for a reason that is quite difficult to explain to a child. Basically a book set in a dystopian London where the British empire never stopped and there are still slaves and foreigners are kept separate living in Ghettos. My children's grandmother would have been a foreigner on my husbands side and my grandfather would be too. They would have really struggled with that as it's not how we live in England at all!
