Summary
In the luscious, dark conclusion to the series that began with One Dark Window, Elspeth must face the consequences of what she's wrought - perfect for fans of Hannah Whitten's For the Wolf and A Court of Thorns and Roses.
Elspeth and Ravyn have gathered most of the twelve Providence Cards, but the last, and most important one remains to be found: The Twin Alders.
If they are going to find it before the Solstice and cure the kingdom of the dark magic infecting it, they will need to journey beyond the dangerous mist-cloaked forest that surrounds their kingdom.
And the only one who can lead them there is the monster that shares Elspeth's head. The Nightmare. And he's not eager to share any longer.

nice characters, perfect duration of books
it was really good! I loved the duration of the story! only two books so you don't get the chance to get bored! maybe I'd like a bit more depth to the characters but it's a small detail!

Exquisite
Enchanting and exquisite. I cried when it was over. The writing is so poetic, the narration utterly luscious.
Easily five stars.

Full Circle
Really enjoyed this well crafted tale. This is Book 2 of 2 and neither book disappoints, the story has immediately become a firm favourite of mine.
I love how every character gets the time and attention to be a valuable part of the story, I loved the world and folklore Rachel Gillig has created, the rhyming riddles, the humour, the sadness, the now and the then. All of it was truly captivating and I look forward to the author's next story.

How a sequel should be written!
The first book was great but this was incredible! I was hooked throughout!
Characters I did not care much for become the ones I was routing for! The ‘villain’ become a beloved character and the ending, that ending was Beautiful, sad and happy all in one.

Perfect sequel
Love the world building, gothic fantasy and atmospheric writing, great side characters take more of a centre stage which makes it surpass the first book - much quicker pacing and overall great story! The narrator does a great job, can't fault it. Definitely recommend!

Best story I have read this year
This story had everything I crave from a fantasy book: good plot, interesting characters unique world building, magic and action. It had everything. A great listen and a great book. Looking forward for more works of this author

Be Weary, Be Clever, Be Good
I thoroughly enjoyed the second Shepherd King book. It completed the story well. The characters from the first book were further developed and writing kept you hooked and wanting to find out what would happen next. Great narration as before although I did giggle every time at the pronunciation of hearth.
