About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
Captain David Marquet was used to giving orders. In the high-stress environment of the USS Santa Fe, a nuclear-powered submarine, it was crucial his men did their job well. But the ship was dogged by poor morale, poor performance and the worst retention in the fleet.
One day, Marquet unknowingly gave an impossible order and his crew tried to follow it anyway. He realised he was leading in a culture of followers and they were all in danger unless they fundamentally changed the way they did things.
Marquet took matters into his own hands and pushed for leadership at every level. Before long, his crew became fully engaged and the Santa Fe skyrocketed from worst to first in the fleet.
No matter your business or position, you can apply Marquet's approach to create a workplace where everyone takes responsibility for their actions, people are healthier and happier - and everyone is a leader.

"David Marquet is the kind of leader who comes around only once in a generation...his ideas and lessons are invaluable." (Simon Sinek, author of Start with Why)

Clear, simple and inspiring
Having listened to David Marquet at a leadership seminar, and having researched some of the ideas of Leader-Leader, I chose to listen to the book. I’m very happy I did. Very clear, easy to understand and full of ideas to really help empower and then enfranchise a team. Highly recommended.

Positive action matters
I love this story and I think it’s one that’s told well it talks about thinking about things differently and ultimately empowering/emancipating individuals to act up and be their best in role. I was particularly struck by how this could be really useful in the work ideal and Neurodiversity in the workplace and would love to have a conversation with the author about expanding this work And bringing it into that space. Brilliant breed and well worth taking your time to listen to the lessons learn and how they could potentially be useful in context. As the author said this isn’t a copy me book it’s about an idea and thinking about how to use those same ideas in your contacts changing them so they’re appropriate and work well.

Very thought-provoking ideas for Command.
Far better than Gen Mattis' "Learning to Lead" this is a genuinely innovative look at command management.
