Summary

On 28 November 2004, banker and father-of-two Alistair Wilson was shot three times on his doorstep in a killing more commonly associated with inner city gang wars than a sleepy seaside town in the Scottish Highlands. All these years later, the question remains: why?

Who would wish to kill this respectable husband and family man in such a brutal fashion? Was it simply a tragic case of mistaken identity, or did someone have reason to end Alistair's life? And what was the significance of the envelope handed to him before he was fatally wounded?

Over the years, lines of enquiry have been investigated and dismissed, gossip has spread, theories offered and rumours debated at length. And yet, so long after Alistair's death, no arrest has ever been made and precious few motives have been made public.

In this gripping true crime investigation, Peter Bleksley, top ex-undercover cop and The Chief on Channel 4's Hunted, strives to uncover the truth and hunt down Alistair's killer. He travels to Scotland, speaks to experts, and draws on his decades of investigative experience in order to provide new insight into Scotland's most mysterious murder case.

Excellent listen.

There was nothing to dislike. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Peter has a way of reading this book that is both straightforward and easy to understand. Excellent narrative by a man who speaks clearly and concisely. Enjoyed going on this particular journey with him. Looking forward to listening to more of his true crime books.

Thoroughly enjoyed

Read this book in a day, couldn't put it down. I really enjoy Peter Bleksley's written work and podcasts and the fact he narrated this himself was an extra bonus. The case is a fascinating one and Peter's empathy and drive for justice is obvious. I look forward to the follow up when this case is eventually solved.

Highly recommend

Ive always been intrigued and baffled by this case. so greatly appreciated, and was pleased that this book was released. It is thoroughly interesting, absorbing, detailed and informative. And I came away with a new and better understanding of what happened. I dont normally pre-order or read an audible without checking reviews first, but such was my interest, I took a risk and Im glad I did. it was well worth the money. It is evident that peter is passionate about solving this case.

Interesting and detailed

I’m a local so thought I’d heard it all but there are snippets in here I wasn’t aware of due to the level of detail and research that’s gone into the book - worth a listen

Bank of Scotland ?

Peter: over here in Belfast many killer's can be seen going about business as normal pushing their grandkids about in prams, and sleeping quite well at night, this murder actually had all the hallmarks of many Belfast killings.
Supporting Rangers F.C would put you shoulder to shoulder on the terraces with such killer's as stated above from the loyalist paramilitaries side: what was the football fixtures that weekend, where Rangers at home or away?
The envelope was given to be filled with money, no money bang bang bang! The envelope could also have been given days\ weeks prior to the killing, and kept in the house away from the wife's gaze in between books etc, she could have assumed it was given on the doorstep night of killing, the empty envelope was Mr Wilson's answer to a demand for money.
The lad was in over his head, someone was Sent to collect with the implicit instruction, no money kill on sight! There is I'm convinced a northern Irish connection to this event: and the killer was back over to Belfast with the next wave of Rangers fans on the ferry..
Or dropped off in one of the north down fishing harbours by trawler.
This stinks of loyalist paramilitaries connection, the killer might be a member of the UVF or UDA in Scotland...if I'm wrong sure you at least got the idea for you next TV drama...planning permission over decking? It's not midsommers murders ffs..
A decent listen all the same.

To not catch a killer

If you were expecting Peter to catch a killer, or even get close to catching a killer or to even come up with a reasonable theory of who it might be or why he did it, then you are in the wrong place.
Speculation is all you will find.
However the book is still engaging and interesting, but falsely advertised for sure.
