About this listen

Two o'clock was missing.

In an alternate Victorian world controlled by clock towers, a damaged clock can fracture time - and a destroyed one can stop it completely.

It's a truth that 17-year-old clock mechanic Danny Hart knows all too well; his father has been trapped in a Stopped town east of London for three years. Though Danny is a prodigy who can repair not only clockwork but the very fabric of time, his fixation with staging a rescue is quickly becoming a concern to his superiors. And so they assign him to Enfield, a town where the tower seems to be forever plagued with problems.

Danny's new apprentice both annoys and intrigues him, and though the boy is eager to work, he maintains a secretive distance. Danny soon discovers why: He is the tower's clock spirit, a mythical being that oversees Enfield's time. Though the boys are drawn together by their loneliness, Danny knows falling in love with a clock spirit is forbidden and means risking everything he's fought to achieve.

But when a series of bombings at nearby towers threaten to Stop more cities, Danny must race to prevent Enfield from becoming the next target, or he'll lose not only his father but the boy he loves - forever.

This is the stunning first novel in a new trilogy by debut author Tara Sim.

Good story, rich world building, great narrator

As story's with a gay protagonist go it's in the top 10s,
although the characters sexuality affects the story, it's not what the whole story is about and I love that.
The creative world and thrilling story carries itself. the gay romance is just a welcome cherry on top 🥰

So good

This is my first audio book. I wasn't sure if I could really enjoy the pace of listening to a book but the reader did such a good job with it! I've listened to 5 hours of it just today and am going straight into book 2. Excellent writing as well from the author of course, otherwise I certainly wouldn't have been able to finish it.

Decent story

This was a different story. A cute story.
The story is slow at first and it takes some time to get interesting. The pace throughout the book is a steady slightly slow pace and there's not much suspense or action until the very last pages. Even then the pace is steady and slow.
In my opinion it lacked some explaining early on and a bit more world building to make to a 4 star book.
One of the reasons was that you had to get a a good part in before it became clear that this might be a steampunk based world. Sure the title gives a hint and the cover of the book too, but the story didn't reveal this until late in the book.

But besides that it is a decent and good book with some good themes.

Beautifully woven tale

It took me a little while to get my head around the presentation of time but that’s part of the charm of this tale.

Great narration, really felt the characters.

Can’t wait to move on to book 2

Very Enjoyable

An entertaining and unusual story which is very well read. The narrator has an easy voice to listen to.
I enjoyed listening to the story, while working in my art studio. I found myself able to see the world and characters in my mind.
I would definitely recommend Timekeeper.

Honestly Didn't Finish It, but it was still okay.

I'd like to start off with the Narrator who was, in my opinion, awesome.

I also didn't read the blurb as I'm trying to expand my reads and it's easier to try new things if I don't really know what I'm getting myself into.

The story - As the title says, I never actually finished it - it wasn't personally my cup of tea. I'd found certain events and relationships between characters to be too predictable which further ruined it when it happened. I know a lot of stories can be predictable but I found the hints too much in your face. I felt the relationship with the love interest also seemed very rushed which I personally found off putting.

The world - Honestly, I loved the idea behind it all, clock towers that control time?! Yes! I liked the idea of the Mechanics who are solely responsible for fixing them up and they do it with the essence of time and almost "sewing" the strings back together. Amazing. I pictured it kind of Steampunk + Victorian style.

Overall, I gave the book 5/5. I loved the world it was set in and the world building was amazing for me, I could almost picture myself there but when it came down to the plot I was massively underwhelmed. I'm glad I gave it a go, but not a book I'll finish.
