Summary

From the fertile hills of a tiny village near Jerusalem to the elegant townhouses of Georgetown, Three Daughters is a historical saga that chronicles the lives, loves, and secrets of three generations of Palestinian Christian women.

Born in rural Palestine, just before the dawn of the 20th century, Miriam adores her father and is certain his love will protect her, but she soon finds that tradition overrides love. Uprooted by war, Miriam enters a world where the old constraints slip away with thrilling and disastrous results. Miriam's rebellious daughter, Nadia, is thrilled with the opportunity for a modern life that her elite education provides. But when she falls in love with an outsider, the clan reins her back with a shocking finality. Nijmeh, Nadia's daughter, is an only child and the path her father, the sheik, sets for her is fraught with difficulties, yet it prepares her for her ultimate journey to America, where she finds her future.

Each woman, in her own time and in her own way, experiences a world in transition through war and social change... and each must stretch the bounds of her loyalty, her courage, and her heart.

What a pile of gushing drivel in the main

This book, for the most part is just a pile of predictable gushing sentimental drivel. That’s my honest opinion of this particular work. it’s only saving grace is the history of Pallestine against which this historical romance is set. taht part is the only reason i took this book in the first place. For the rest it’s just awful but then I cannot stand romances which this is. Everything about it is totally predictable right down to the stolen daughter and well, god bless America which is enough to make most people living outside the States just want to throw up but there’s plenty of it in this book and, though i haven’t finished it yet I can guess it’ll end that way. The performance now, well, it’s well enough read as far as it goes but the accents are just plain awful. The Scottixh accent is particuarly bad and the English one isn’t a great deal better. So, if you love romances this will suit you but if you don’t well, I’m sure there are better books than this which will give you all the history you want.

Got round to it eventually!

I have had this book in my library for a very long time and had a few false starts at listening to it. Initially I found the narration tedious and the story slow but perseverance is a great thing and I’ve ended loving the 20 + hours of this story (and the narration!).
I’ve just downloaded book 2 which is much shorter (9 hours ish) and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Loved this book

The story was woven over several generations and some interesting characters. It certainly didn’t resolve all the losses but found light in dark places.

Mesmerising

I loved this story. It's well written and read. I felt I learned more about life in Palestine. The story was pretty far fetched in places but still gripping, detailed and exciting.

The most morish delight you would choose at a sweet shop!

I loved this book and really did not want it to end!
A beautiful social and emotional commentary that really took you to each and every geographical and emotional destination. I have struggled to find a really good listen for a while but this surpassed all expectations and was read with the most glorious chocolate intonation.

Disappointing.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first 2/3 of this book, which is beautifully read.
Unfortunately, it descends rapidly into Mills and Boon territory in the final part.
I stuck with it to the bitter end, which became more of an effort. All I felt was relief, if I am being honest.
