About this listen
From the fertile hills of a tiny village near Jerusalem to the elegant townhouses of Georgetown, Three Daughters is a historical saga that chronicles the lives, loves, and secrets of three generations of Palestinian Christian women.
Born in rural Palestine, just before the dawn of the 20th century, Miriam adores her father and is certain his love will protect her, but she soon finds that tradition overrides love. Uprooted by war, Miriam enters a world where the old constraints slip away with thrilling and disastrous results. Miriam's rebellious daughter, Nadia, is thrilled with the opportunity for a modern life that her elite education provides. But when she falls in love with an outsider, the clan reins her back with a shocking finality. Nijmeh, Nadia's daughter, is an only child and the path her father, the sheik, sets for her is fraught with difficulties, yet it prepares her for her ultimate journey to America, where she finds her future.
Each woman, in her own time and in her own way, experiences a world in transition through war and social change... and each must stretch the bounds of her loyalty, her courage, and her heart.

A beautiful and poignant story
This was a surprisingly compelling book. the story of a family over generations set in the Middle East, America and Europe serves as a great metaphor for the state of the world up to and after the first world war. The characters are richly drawn and come to life through the quality of the prose. This is a highly entertaining and thoughtful book as beautiful as it is poignant. A story of beauty and loss told through the lives of strong women. Highly recommended

Fantastic narration!
Gripping, dramatic family saga, warm, uplifting and occasionally scandalous. Unbelievably good narration. How does Peakes manage so many characters so well?

A romance novel through the generations
im not really one for romance novels and I didn't expect this one to be so. however i did still enjoy this book. The narration was exceptional, the explanations of the culture and traditions of Jerusalem deep and informative. I loved that this was a long listen. I didn't like the last daughter. She was a bit dull and simpering and I certainly didn't like cousin.
but hey...there u have it. still a good read

2 out of 3 worth reading
Is there anything you would change about this book?
The third daughter was really boring
Would you be willing to try another book from Consuelo Saah Baehr? Why or why not?
Maybe - if the synopsis interested me
What about Karen Peakes’s performance did you like?
Very good voice and accents.
Could you see Three Daughters being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?
Probably but not really interested in actors.
Any additional comments?
The first two daughters were quite feisty interesting people who led interesting lives and the political climate going on around them was interesting. The third daughter was a boring, wimpy individual and I struggled to get to the end of the book. Perhaps it was because the other two went through really hard times but "Star" had a spoilt, easy life but it still did not make for interesting reading.

Mesmerising
I loved this story. It's well written and read. I felt I learned more about life in Palestine. The story was pretty far fetched in places but still gripping, detailed and exciting.

This is the Best Book I have read for quite some time
If your pondering over choosing this book don't hesitate I love a book that takes you too places the Narration was fantastic it just breezed through chapters I was trying to make it last the month as I had listened to a few,I found myself not being able to stop listening, I use Audible as a sleeping aid this one I found the Sun coming up,When I grew up my farther was very concerned for the Palestinians and it's all still going on today it's all so sad,If you think you know the history then take a punt and learn a bit of Social History and learn how beautiful it was before it endured endless bomb attacks how Cosmopolitan it was and people with different faiths living together through good and bad times through three Generations of Women Although it it was by no means dull plenty of adventure. My favourite so far this year.
