About this listen

Remember, remember, the fifth of November…

1605: Anne Catesby fears for her family. Her son, the darkly charismatic Robert, is secretly plotting to kill the King, placing his wife and child in grave danger. Anne must make a terrible choice: betray her only child, or risk her family’s future.

Present day: When her dreams of becoming a musician are shattered, Lucy takes refuge in her family’s ancestral home in Oxfordshire. Everyone knows it was originally home to Robert Catesby, the gunpowder plotter. As Lucy spends more time in the beautiful winter garden that Robert had made, she starts to have strange visions of a woman in Tudor dress, terrified and facing a heartbreaking dilemma.

As Lucy and Anne’s stories converge, a shared secret that has echoed through the centuries separating them, will change Lucy’s life forever…

Sweeping generations from the 1600s to the present day, with the enthralling Gunpowder Plot at its heart, Nicola Cornick’s utterly enchanting timeslip novel will sweep you off your feet. Perfect for fans of Lucinda Riley, Barbara Erskine and Kate Morton.

fabulous

I have enjoyed every second of this wonderful book, narrated so well. It's been a joy to listen to, and I highly recommend it. But this is my favourite type of book.

A compelling story

Fantastic plot, excellently researched. The link between past and present was described so well, The characters of the present day were totally believable and the author’s description of Knightstone was so vivid I could picture the village and the barn. Thank you for a wonderful book.

Remember Remember the 5th of November

An interesting twist on a story we think we know so well, cleverly intertwined with modern day love.

OK story ruined by poor performance

The story wasn't the best ever, but it was ok. I felt you could tell where it was going from quite early on, so no surprise at the end. And the main (modern) character wasn't particularly likeable which didn't help.
But the narration was dreadful. The book would have been far less listening time if it were not for all the pauses. They were often random, completely unnecessary, & far too frequent. It was unfortunate that one of the characters needed a Scottish accent as that was unsuccessful. In fact I didn't find any of the characterisation was successful.
I might listen to another book by the author but I shall avoid anything else by this narrator.

A Real Treasure

Loved this book. Interesting historical facts combined with “can’t put down” storyline. Well written and narrated. I was so sorry when I came to the end.

Brilliant Story

Absolutely loved this book, the storyline kept you turning the page.
The twists and turns, the jumping from one story to the other was done extremely well, you knew exactly who, how, where and when.
I have to say it has made me research the families in the story to get more information about them. Intrigued to learn more.

Good story, terrible narration

If the story hadn’t been so good, I would have given this up, because the narrator was dire.
