About this listen

Can your final fling become your happy ever after?

When Jo Coulson finds herself single again in her late 30s, she finally resigns her membership to Last of the Hopeless Romantics, fully intending to tackle midlife and motherhood alone. First, she plans one legendary last fling....

In walks Harry Inchbold, and the connection is electric. Passionate, unpredictable and messily divorced, Harry is the perfect antidote to cosy coupledom. Known as The Sinner, drama follows him around with a clapper board.

Harry's favourite holiday hideaway in the wilds of South Shropshire puts the mud and fun into the perfect dirty weekend. But at the cottage, Harry reveals a very different side, melting Jo's resolve. What better combination to face an uncertain future than two cynics who have learned from their mistakes?

Together they make a pact: same time next year; they can promise no more than that. Through life's most stressful decade, Harry and Jo return to the Shropshire hills for one weekend each year to rediscover passion and make peace. As career, family and home crises all threaten to bring them unstuck, the cottage is their glue. Here, different rules apply: the day-to-day world is not allowed to intrude. With Harry and Jo, however, it's only a matter of time before rules get broken. As real life gets increasingly complicated, can they keep renewing their promise?

Stunning

Fiona Walker draws you into a chocolate box of characters yet again . Different to past stories I have read with fewer characters . But still the twists and turns of emotion . It's like being s fly on the wall. Very absorbing .
Narrator was excellent and created atmosphere and made the characters real .
Fabulous read thank you Fiona looking forward to your next book

Not sure

Normally love Fiona Walker books but found this one very hard going, I think some of it was the narrators voice especially Harry’s .

I'll be returning this

What would have made The Weekends of You and Me better?

A more interesting story! I wasn't engaged by either of the main characters, whose mutual attraction seemed to be based solely around marathon bonking sessions, though even those seemed a bit one-sided.

Would you ever listen to anything by Fiona Walker again?

I've bought 5 other titles by FW and enjoyed them all with their slightly raunchier Jilly Cooperish style, with readers to match, but this one has brought me up short. Would I give another one a go? I'd be a great deal more circumspect: listen to the sample all the way through, read all the reviews, then go away and think about it. I'm just not sure how much of my disappointment is down to the narrator...

What didn’t you like about Jan Cramer’s performance?

These things are clearly subjective - I've read reviews of other books read by this person who clearly love her - but quite honestly JC drove me mad! So ... well ... detached, languid and bored really and reeeaallly, reeeaallly sloooow, to the extent that for the first time ever I tried to liven things up by switching my iPod up a speed, which only resulted in parts of it being gabbled. In the end I gave up the struggle without getting half way through. Maybe it was simply a question of right story, wrong narrator ...or the other way round.

What character would you cut from The Weekends of You and Me?

The narrator!

Any additional comments?

It's fascinating how all of us hear and are affected by these things differently. How do you chose the reader for a book?

Boring

Extremely boring book - same thing happening over and over again. One of the worst narrators I've heard - very over dramatic.
