About this listen
Emma, Brian, Flynn, Cooper, and Paadini are the lucky few who’ve survived the deadly pandemic EV-01-H virus, or the Vermilion Strain. It is a contagion so virulent that it has caused an extinction-level event. None of them have seen humans for weeks, and no one is coming to help them.
They must each find the courage to carve out a new life in a new reality and a new world. They must learn new skills and face challenges that they never bargained for.
What is out there, awaiting them? Will the human species blink out of existence?
Each day is a gamble - a stratagem of life and death.

Great apocalyptic listen
This book kept me engrossed from start to finish. There is minimal violence, which makes a change in books of this type. Recommended.

Quite enjoyable!
S.A. Ison does brilliantly depicts a stark setting, where humanity is on the brink of extinction from a pandemic. What I liked about S.A. Ison's writing is that he didn't go for the shock factor. The few that have survived band together and they aren't any pressing confrontations with bad guys. I've read and listened to many post-apocalyptic, and at times the tension is so high or shocking that I've been tempted to skip certain scenes. Kevin S. Moody's narration is smooth, and his portrayal of the characters was nicely done. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this audiobook. I was given a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Fantastic
This is just a fantastic book , the story, narrator and feel of the book is quality from start to finish , I will re read this over and over . I love the characters and the interaction between them and the feel of family, values. It’s easy to follow with the different factions too .

Enjoyable story
I really enjoyed listening to this audiobook.
A frighteningly real threat, destroys a huge part of the earth’s population, here we are following some good characters, trying to survive , meeting very different sides of humanity

Post apocalyptic hope
The ‘nicest’ dystopian drama I’ve ever read. All the bad guys die, they save all the children and everyone hard working and respectable lives happily ever after.
Perhaps this is a rather simplistic view. I actually listened to this while recovering from a mild version of the Covid19 virus so I probably didn’t want the worst case scenario. It spurred me on while preparing my own vegetable garden and I too would advocate the merits of a more self sufficient future.
But this was not a gritty story with complex personalities and high drama. But it wasn’t dreadful and it helped while away a few hours of my lockdown.

Terrible!
I have to start by saying I gave up on this book & returned it after listening to 2.5 hours. I am a great fan of this genre & was looking forward to reading something a little less violent & confrontational. The story started of promising enough with some interesting scene setting. However, as some of the characters came together I found the dialogue to be extremely clumsy & unnatural & the narrator’s sing-song delivery was downright odd. It didn’t fit the story line nor the actual dialogue it was delivering. Very strange.
