About this listen

Fifty years. Two deaths. One detective to solve an impossible case...

DI Jan Talantire is called to a cottage in Ilfracombe, where the female occupant is found dead, impaled with a crucifix. The woman, who had been renting the house for a few months, is well known locally, but the documents at the house indicate her real name is Ruth Lyle. The name means nothing to the young PC who found her, DI Talantire knows this cannot be the body of Ruth Lyle.

Because fifty years earlier, sixteen-year-old Ruth Lyle was murdered—stabbed by a crucifix, in exactly the same location. It is impossible for this to be the same Ruth Lyle, and yet the records are a match. DI Talantire must solve the ultimate riddle: how can a woman die twice?

A twisty and binge-worthy crime thriller. Perfect for fans of Elly Griffiths and Kate Ellis.

Wait! What Just Happened?!

What are crazy amazing and grossing story? There was so many plot twist you would get whiplash from having your head snapped from this way to that. There are lots of leaps that you have to take but the story is really worth the time and energy for a good listen!

Pretty good.

The story was pretty good and look forward to the next one and the narrator was very good, the Devon accents were there but didn’t make the characters sound like country bumpkins, which many narrators do.

Less would be better

An excellent plot. some lovely asides but somewhere it went off track too often or things explained with more words than needed. I would have enjoyed it more if it had been at least 1hr less

This kept me on the edge of my seat! One of the best I’ve listened to in a long time! Please let this be the first of many - so many plot twists that really kept me guessing! Brilliant!

Great book

Great book and easy to listen to whilst I was working. Not too complicated and a good story.

Good story but let down a bit by the narration.

Really enjoyed the storyline but found the narrators attempts at different accents irritating and at times of putting and I live in the part of the world that this story was set! it was a good enough plot to have kept interest just being read normally.

Yet another great series

I have just finished binge listening to another police procedural by this author and found this one so straight onto it.
I just loved the twists and turns and there were hints of where it was going to go and I wondered how it was going to go get there, even when my thoughts were supposedly overturned. I just had to keep listening and find out.
I liked the narration and that worked really well.

Ok. Not very good female characters

Not as good as the Gillard series. Nick Louth writes good detective fiction but he’s not the best at writing female characters. I appreciate him trying to write a female protagonist but it would be better if he stuck to male characters or worked with a female writer to improve his work. Overall a decent enough listen. The narration was a bit ropey in places. Some very questionable accents and mispronunciations but overall it was ok.
