About this listen
Seven years ago, Rachel gave her heart to a dark, intense stranger who left her broken and alone.
Every day since then Rachel has thought about Dex, her memories refusing to be silenced.
Now, Dex is back, but this time he is not alone. He has brought a formidable army - their sole purpose to conquer. Fate will bring Rachel and Dex back together, but on opposing sides of a war that threatens to obliterate her world.
Pitted against the power of the elements, Rachel and her friends must survive tsunamis, earthquakes, tornadoes, and fire, all the while being hunted by a powerful enemy who will stop at nothing to pillage her planet.
Fleeing for her life amid the chaos of a raging, burning city, Rachel realizes man’s only chance of survival lies in the hands of the very person who betrayed her all those years ago.
Earth is destined to fall, but Rachel is determined to save mankind, no matter the sacrifice.

A great story
An alien story so very different. It’s got romance and war and aliens who control the elements.
It’s a non stop battle to take control, then the story of Rachel and Dex. Separated and refound, things aren’t always that straight forward. There are so many different aspects to the characters and relationships founded in this story.
I’m not a big romance fan, or battles, but I couldn’t resist this & Melissa Delport does a good tale.
Narrator was good too, calm & steady & flowed really well.

Traveler-tastic!
The Traveler was released on 27th May 2019 and I bought it in the 28th May 2019. It is my two least favourite genres combined; romance and chick-lit! But, but, but, it was written by the multi talented, master author, Melissa Delport and quite honestly, I'd pay good money to read her shopping lists or notes to the milkman, such is this author's ability. I dived in, prepared not to particularly enjoy the story but still appreciate the writing. That'll teach me! I was swept up in Rachel's and Dex's story, and, as I listened I looked over at Mr Melanie, sleeping on the sofa, glasses askew on his nose, saliva dribbling out of the corner of his mouth, shepherd's pie and tomato ketchup liberally splashed down the front of his faded sweatshirt, tummy hanging over the top of his mis-matched sweatpants and I realised that I too had experienced such love, and still do to this day. He may not be a Venonite with unrivalled, weather changing powers, but he's my very own superman! The Traveler is a fast-paced, action packed story, filled with emotion. There are a myriad of different relationships to examine and bonds are stretched and tested, broken and strengthened. There is romance, but there's also science fiction, fantasy and contemporary themes throughout. When the world as you know is collapsing all around you, would you be brave? Would your love stay strong? These and many other issues are thoroughly investigated and it was a triumph. Bravo Ms Delport and bravo Leah Sponburgh for your totally brilliant performance. A 5 star highly recommended hit.

Storms, fireballs and panic.
This is going to be a tough book to review because although I can recognise that it's well written, it falls straight into one of my least favourite genres, Action. I chose it because I have enjoyed several books by Melissa Delport, especially under her alias of Lisa Del, and I knew she would not disappoint. I have since reread the book's description and I now see that in my enthusiasm, I managed to miss the words tsunami, conquer and pillage, so to be fair, I have upgraded my 3.5 to a 4* rating.
Rachel is a TV news journalist and she is out on a job with her colleagues, when her world is turned upside down by extreme weather and devastation. Amidst mass panic, they head back to the TV studio to post a final bulletin, before heading to the one place on a weather chart that shows calm. Hmm, this is all going through my head now and I don't want to post spoilers, so, fast forward and Rachel has met up with Dex, a past boyfriend who had a devastating effect on her at the time. She is still bewitched, but she hadn't known that he wasn't human, so it is an horrific shock to discover that he is with the powerful invading force. How can their relationship possibly resume?
The characterisations in this novel were strong, even with such a large cast. We meet various people along the way, but they all feel very real and relatable. Leah Sponburgh was a fabulous narrator, how she kept pace with the action, I have no idea. Her job was more like that of a sports commentator then a book narrator and she impressed me no end.
The world is in chaos and this small band survivors needs to find somewhere as far from the action as possible. If Action is your thing, this is a definite next-read.

YA dystopia, scifi romance
I did not know what to expect but the author surprised me in this one. It had twist and turns, a good plot and outcomes that I was not expecting.
Looking forward to the next book in the series.

What is different about humans?
A good storyline with twists and turns, complex situations with surprising outcomes. Narration is good, but if I'm being really picky (sorry) it lacks some nuances of emotions - perhaps this is intentional given the storyline, but the cadence and tones are a little on the hypnotic side. Overall a good book though.

Splendid adventure from a trusted author
Another splendid adventure from the multi-talented and multi-faceted Melissa Delport - I wouldn’t usually pick up a YA-type, dystopian, sci-fi romance but I’ve learned to trust the author and just enjoy the ride.
As all her books this was beautifully written, highly original, quirky, full of fun and in this case plenty of fast-paced action. The narration by Leah Sponburgh is fabulous - this really made my commute to work so much more enjoyable.
Here’s hoping for a sequel!

The Traveler
What would you do if the world was under attack from another planet? This book has so many obstacles to overcome and yet does it beautifully. Definitely one of the most unique books in this genre. I will be listening to the next in this series soon.

Brilliant book by a brilliant author
I am a massive fan of Melissa's ever since listening to The Clock Keepers and this book did not disappoint.
The book follows a man and woman who vanish from each others lives for a while and when they meet again are fighting against each other, one trying to destroy a world and one to save it.
As with Melissa's other work this one has a lot of adventure, romance and world building in it.
I loved this one and can't wait to listen to the next one.
